Anthropology is a topic that I am not super familiar since I never really learnt about it before, I know that it is the study of culture through artifacts and observations. I know it’s the study of cultures to find norms and values that shape human behaviour. I also know that some kinds of anthropologists study linguistics specifically so they can study foreign cultures languages and learn them to understand them better. Our first exercise in this project was to look at some random photos of artifacts and to try and figure out what they are just based on what they look like, our group got a photo of some sort of hand tool with a wide head, we were told not to assume which made things a bit harder but by just observing rather than guessing I began to get more of an idea to what this artifact might be. We then all went around the room explaining what we believed our artifact to be, our group thought initially that our artifact may be used to burn incense but it ended up being something completely different, as we went around the room I began to notice that most people were making some big assumptions which were almost never correct which felt like a cool way to see just how different other cultures and societies are. I want to learn how to evaluate objects on more profound level and be able to learn a new skill which is learning the use and history of human society and since we live on indigenous land it seems like a valuable skill to know so that I can not just use for my schoolwork but in everyday life.
