My Strength: Critical Thinking

My Behaviour: Self-Regulation

Driving Question: How does dystopia function as social criticism?

My Action:

I chose to focus on Critical Thinking after my last project creating a documentary about authoritarianism. That experience showed me how easily information can be shaped to control what people believe. For example, I found two news reports on the same event, one called the leader a hero, the other a threat to society. It made me realize how bias affects truth, and how often I used to accept information way too quickly.

Now, I want to be a thinker who questions where facts come from and why they matter. When I find a strong claim, I plan to pause and ask:

Who is saying this? What’s missing?

If a source only shows one side, I’ll find another with a different view. This helps me build arguments supported by real and balanced evidence.

The video above shows the “script” that had been brought up in all of my research just showing how corrupt the media is in this modern society.

To stay focused, I’m using Self-Regulation through a personal research checklist that tracks each claim and compares at least two sources. I’ll note why one is stronger maybe it includes data, multiple perspectives, or newer information. Slowing down like this helps me be more precise and confident in my thinking.

This mindset connects directly to our Driving Question, because strong critical thinking reveals the truth behind ideas and leads to projects that are meaningful and reliable. For this project, I plan to include visuals that represent analysis and questioning, perhaps a quote from my documentary about truth and power, or a screenshot of my research checklist in progress. These pieces will remind me that good research isn’t about finding quick answers, but about asking better questions and supporting every claim with real evidence.
