This year, my grade carried on the long held PLP tradition of camping in Oregon for a week. We visited landmarks and tidepools, went on expeditions and tours, and, all in all, had a ton of fun. The week was based on a unit about marine life, and our activities reflected that. We visited Cannon Beach and Haystack Rock, the Oregon Coast Aquarium, the Hatfield Marine Science Center, and a marine discovery cruise, to name a few. At Cannon Beach, we saw countless intertidal creatures, and we learned about plankton on the cruise.
The aquarium was filled with animals, and we slurped shrimp out of the ground and built robots at the Hatfield Marine Science Center. We made advertisements about the Hatfield Marine Science Center for our advertising unit. Here’s my final ad.
When we weren’t learning about tidal life or making ads, we were having a ton of fun- like being rebellious teens in a Walmart,
or laughing and playing games on the bus.
We spent a lot of time on the bus. There were other landmarks too; we saw the Astoria Column and the Wreck of the Peter Iredale,
which sank ‘crossing the bar’ into the Columbia River. One of the best things about the week were the yurts. The yurts were nice and big, and unlike anything we’d slept in before. I think this trip is a must for a Grade 8 next year. If you’d like to read about it, look at my book below.
Nice post. Those were some memorable moments at Costco.
