Last year we studied the concept of worldview, which is how you view the world. This year, we’re studying the concept of identity, which is how you view yourself. I think that personally, my identity really affects my worldview, and my worldview also affects my identity.
As a new Canadian citizen, my identity has changed a lot over the past few years. And that’s okay! Sometimes some events can help you look at yourself differently. I know I see myself differently when I look at the words ‘Nationality: Canadian’ on my passport.
Everyone has their own, individual, unique identity. There are factors, however, that can affect everyone’s identity. One of those factors is where we live. This can affect most of your daily life, like what sports you play, how you get to school, or what you eat for dinner. How the place where we live impacts who we are is the subject of the videos we have made as part of our first big project of the year.
One criterion for this project was that we had to include an interview with someone on our trip. I chose to interview tourists, as their experiences can tell me what the answer to our question is.
Here’s mine:
As I mentioned in the video, I also interviewed our tour guide of the Cave and Basin. Although I didn’t end up using the footage, the interview itself was quite useful to my project.
It took a while, but I eventually discovered that my answer to the driving question of this video- ‘How does the land impact our identity?’ is that even though we don’t always notice, the place where you live affects almost everything you do. Different countries have completely different customs, for example, and those customs can even change by region. The town you live in has a history that becomes a part of you. There are other ways you’re affected by where you live, like the ones I mentioned earlier. These small things add up, until you’re a completely different person than someone on the opposite side of the world.
Thanks for reading my blog post and (hopefully) watching my video!
I really like how you talked about your identity and your experience with it. It really added something to it. One thing I would change is to maybe put the part where you talk about criteria before the video, other wise it’s a really solid post.
