Tpol 2025! ☀️

This school year really flew by! It felt like just yesterday that I was doing my Mpol. To start off, here is the pol declaration:

“Thank you for coming to my presentation of learning. I am the expert on my own learning. I am also responsible and accountable for my own learning. You can expect me to give an honest evaluation of my progress. We will discuss my strengths and opportunities for growth. Thank you in advance for listening and for offering feedback that I can use to improve as a learner.”

Why do you feel you are ready to advance to the next grade level?

That is the driving question for this Tpol. Throughout the post I will talk about how I have demonstrated growth as a learner this year, and how I can use that to advance to grade 10. I will reflect on all of my courses, and show some projects that I did for each course. All of this will help to answer the driving question! First thing, I am going to look back at my Vision, Mission, Values.

Vision, Mission, Values

Mission:

My mission for this school year is to be open minded to new projects and groups that I am in. I will work more on stress management and being diligent with work. I will also find a healthy balance between social life, sports, and school work. I will make that happen by doing my homework right away so then I have time for my other activities. I will find positive things within projects that may be challenging (With group members or the task). I would like to be excited to come to school, and that is a mindset I will work on. I will work on that by finding the things I don’t enjoy about school and trying to recognize the helpful impact it will have on my future!

To sum it up, I wanted to find a healthy balance between my sports, social life, and school. I also wanted to have a positive attitude to new projects, groups, and school in general!

Vision:

When I think of graduating and taking on University, I want to be excited to learn new things, and have an open mindset ready to take on challenges that come my way. I want to have a good balance, and enjoy what I do in life.

obviously, I haven’t completed this Vision, but it is still relevant to me, and I will still work towards this.

Now, I will talk about the project from each subject that I am most proud of.

Humanities

Throughout humanities this year, there have been so many fun but challenging projects. But when I think of one that I am most proud of, I just think of the most recent one. I found it so interesting, and I think that makes a big difference when it comes to enjoying a project. ww1 is so interesting to me, and I want to learn even more about it. I feel like this project taught me a lot about independence and being diligent with keeping up. I made a list of which drawing to do on what days of the week.

Honestly, I didn’t think that I could accomplish all of these every day. I have tried to stay super focused in class this month, and that has helped me to stay on track. Having a class full of my friends is challenging a lot of the time to stay focused, but I have improved at staying focused on my work.

I set aside time every night, and sometimes I think I worked for too long… This was showing a stretch in my Values section of my VMV. I wanted to have a healthy balance with school work, social life, and sports. I have spent a lot of time working on drawings in my room. I need to sometimes take a step back and take a breath.

I am quite proud of the end result, and I think that all my hard work payed off!

Science

Again, My best project was the most recent one. I feel like it was super fun for me because it was more hands on. I was in a group with Tyler, Emilia, Daniel, Lian, and Sven. I really enjoyed working with this group, because I had some friends, and we all worked well together. Everyone had unique strengths and valued that we all brought to the table. Before getting these groups, we learned all about pollination, and the importance of it. I also learned about plant reproduction and how pollination plays a big part in that.

I was put in that group to focus on butterflies. We made a pollination pamphlet, a food web, and interactive element, and a call to action. I helped a lot with artistic elements, and creativity. I volunteered to make everyone butterfly wings, and to make the food. I did a good job of staying diligent and doing my part on time. This was a very fun exhibition, and I don’t think it would have been fun if I hadn’t made it fun. Sometimes my mind turns exhibitions into a hard thing that I dread, but this time I really tried to apply my mission statement and make it fun! My group also made a song to go with our station. This year, I have learned a lot about making the most of situations.

Maker

This year in Maker, we focused on video making. I learned all about the aspects of a good video, and I made lots of videos working on those. The project that I think was the best for me was my mini-doc. I liked how we got creative freedom, and I got to pick the topic and who I interviewed. This was the project we had to end the year off and I am proud of how I could apply all the skills I learned into this final video.

At the start of the year, I barely had any knowledge about editing, and how to make a good video. I got very confident in using iMovie, and how to work a bunch of different editing apps like keynote. Even thought filming myself and interviewing other people is a little out of my comfort zone, this year has given me confidence to continue on using those skills!

Why do you feel you are ready to advance to the next grade level?

I think that I am ready to advance to the next grade, because I am trying my hardest to be the best student I can be, and to try my best in every project I have done this year. I have grown as a learner a lot in the past year, and I am continuing to work towards my vision for grade 12. In September I am going to really work on staying focused and getting projects done sooner than later. I will also keep using Things. That has been super helpful for me this year. I am excited to see what next year has in store for me!

Thank you for listening to my Tpol!

Spring Exhibition 2025 🦋🌼

Don’t Worry, BEE happy! 🐝

In this blog post I will talk about how our class learned all about the importance of pollination, and how we used that knowledge to create a pamphlet, food web, and call to action. All of these steps end in the Spring exhibition, where we showcased our learning!

Pollination

I learned so much about pollination. I barely knew how important it really is, and this project has taught me so much. Pollination is in danger, and we have to help! Over 80% of the world’s flowering plants rely on pollinators to help them reproduce.

The Exhibition!

After we learned all about plant reproduction and pollination, we were put into groups. I was really happy that I got put into the butterfly group! The people in my group were Tyler, Emilia, Lian, Sven, and Daniel. I really liked being in this group, because everyone has different skills and talents that they brought to the group. For example I volunteered to make the butterfly wings and the food. I also took the responsibility of shopping for supplies with Emilia. Everyone put in different important things into this project. It is important for a group to have that balance.

We had to have 3 main things at our exhibition station: A pollination Pamphlet, a food web, and a call to action. Here is our pollination pamphlet.

Next up, here is our food web showing how butterflies are so important to our ecosystem-system.

For our call to action, we had a hard time figuring it out. It needed to be something that was interactive, but also something that the people can take away from it. We decided to have foam blocks and pipe cleaners. The visitors could make a native flower with the pipe cleaners, and then plant it in our “garden”. When they planted them, we flew a little butterfly onto their flower. That showed them how native plants are so important for butterflies to thrive. The next aspect of our call to action was a poster about iNaturalist and Seek. I talked to the people about how important using seek is for scientists to collect data about what plants and animals are thriving. We put a QR code on it so they could download it right there!

The exhibition itself was super fun, but also tiring. Talking to people is draining! It all worked out though, and I think it was my best exhibition yet.

How can we support and protect local pollinators to ensure healthy eco- systems for our local communities?

That is the driving question for this project. Planting native plants in your garden is one really good way to help save the pollinators. Like in our call to action, something as simple as posting a picture to iNaturalist is super helpful for scientists to gain data about what eco-systems are thriving! Just try and spread to word to your friends, families, and anyone you come across! It is just good to be aware of pollinators and how you can help them.
