I found this the most English centred project we have done in a while. The goal for this project was to write a multi paragraph response about how perspectives on Louis Riel have changed over time. I have often hated writing wether it was a long essay, or a simple sentence. Even thought I often dislike writing I quite enjoyed it this time.

I am going to split this into two different sections: gathering information on Louis Riel and writing the paragraph. 

Information

Gathering information on Louis Riel had another depth to it because not only did you need to get information, but you also had to look at different biases that sources could have. I guess that’s what we were looking for with different perspectives, but it still made it a bit more difficult. A big thing that came up was wether the source was using quotes or not. Lot’s of quotes had the perspective of Louis Riel being a dangerous man. As more awareness is being brought to human rights in more recent years, Riel is being seen more as a hero.

 

Paragraphs

Writing the paragraphs were difficult because I wanted to show both views of Louis Riel which means I can’t just say he was a rebel. Did some people see him as a rebel? Yes. Did everyone see him as a rebel? No. Having these two opposing views made it hard to decide what I should describe him as.

I built my multi paragraph into three paragraphs with each giving a different idea. The first paragraph is just hook for the reader, and it gives a general summary of the whole multi paragraph. The second paragraph was the most difficult to write. This is were I went over different facts, events, and people that are involved with Louis Riel. This paragraph was difficult, for the opposite reason you would think. It wasn’t difficult to write about the info, the problem was not rambling on and writing an oversized paragraph. Having to then tie it all together and show perspectives was also difficult in the third paragraph. I also showed other evidence like statues, and how they related to the view of Louis Riel evolving.
