Ugh, School🎓

Hello friends, I’m back with another post about school. For the past month or so I have been doing a very important project called, school, what is it good for. The project was all about changing the school system in Canada and creating more engaged citizens, the driving question I was answering through this project was “How might we transform schools to create engaged and informed citizens?”

Now you might be curious about what I actually did during this project well I decided to make a new school system based on curiosity.

The idea came from the free school programs, I find the concept of free school very intriguing but I think keeping some of the same academics and routines is important. I created a schedule where every Wednesday (because it's the middle of the week) students get a community/free learning day. A school would transform into different thematic sections where students explore their own interests and life skills. Teachers would be in the school and at least one would be in each section to supervise for safety and legal reasons but the learning is up to the students. And this day is not only for students, teachers also have a chance to explore interests, they can catch up with work, talk to the students or have some time to look into different interests.

That was my brief “project pitch” but let me tell you about the presentation of this project. I had to create an artifact to represent my idea and present it in an exhibition at my school. A couple classmates and I decorated a small part of a room and display our projects. I made a sign that we hung from the ceiling and painted some ping pong balls to look like Earth and hang those from the ceiling. I was very proud of those things.

To present my project I made a bunch of posters and a website to show my idea for a new school system. If you want to see those click this link.

I was really proud of this project and had a lot of fun doing it. Coming up with my idea was a great experience, I had to pick something in schools that I wanted to change and I collaborated with a lot of my friends and family to figure out my final plan. I also enjoyed actually making the final artifact, I used an app called Craft to help make my site, I have recently started using Craft a lot in everyday stuff, I love using it so being able to use it for this project made making my artifact a lot more enjoyable.

Thank you so much for reading this post about my most recent school endeavours. Until next time🧡
