Hello and welcome back to another year of blogs. Instead of just doing one post per project we are doing 2, one at the start and one at the end. Now because of this my posts will be shorter than others. This specific project is about WWII but we haven’t really done anything with that just yet.
What we have done to kick off is how we remember older events in the world. We had to find a old newspaper article and pair it with another news article on the same event. I chose to do the most relevant topic in the 80’s….. The 85 Bears. Now you might be asking why are you not doing something more impactful like the Cold War or 9/11 or something like that. Well I like the Bears so here is my paragraph on comparing the news.
THE 85 BEARS
Intro
For the past 40 the Super Bowl winning team has been a topic in the news on and off including the teams 40 year anniversary this season. They have been called one of the best teams in NFL history going 15-1 in the regular season plus the 3 playoff games.
Comparing newspapers
It was really hard to find an old newspaper article that i could actually read for free about the bears but after a long time I found one.
Since the start of super bowls 1967 this was the first time that Chicago was genuinely good to a point that the city held rallies and orchestras were performing their theme song. There are many differences like how people talked in the newsapers to today in online articles. Here’s a quote or 2 from each
The quotes
1985: “when it happened, when it finally happened and 22 year of frustration were redeemed.”
“All the bears had to do was line up, look the New England Patriots in the eye and it was done.”
2025: “But nothing — nothing topped the excitement of our sports scene. If you don’t know the history — and if you do, you surely miss it — just try to imagine it.”
From these you can probably see the differences in the language over the years that this event has happened.
I hope you’ve liked this short post and hope that you read more.
