Some Revolution Stuff about Peace and War

A revolution, a change, parts of human history… it’s a revolution okay it can only sound so dramatic without bringing up fights!

Hello and welcome back to this lovely blog where today I will be talking about the difference between a land after a revolution with vs without war.

To start off I decided I needed examples (ingenious I know). So for my example of a revolution with war… The French Revolution! Because les Français sont des combattants.

The French Revolution

The French Revolution started because of political and social problems (“social problems” makes it sound like the entirety of France was anti-social, thats not what it means).

The French Revolution started on the 5th of May 1789 and ended on November 9th 1799 (10 Years, 6 months and 4 days later).

The location of the French Revolution was (of course) The Kingdom of France.

The far-reaching upheaval of social and political issues lasted from 1789 until1799, and was partly carried forward by Napoleon during the later expansion of the French Empire.

The Revolution overthrew the monarchy, established a republic, experienced violent periods of political turmoil, and finally reached a climax in a dictatorship under Napoleon that rapidly brought many of its principles to Western Europe and beyond. Inspired by liberal and radical ideas, the Revolution profoundly altered the course of modern history, triggering the global decline of absolute monarchies while replacing them with republics and liberal democracies.

There you have, a tiny bit of a backstory to the Revolution. But Im looking at what happened AFTER the revolution. As this revolution caused a few wars during the ten years of its existence, I think it’s a good enough example of a revolution that ended in war.
I mean the French Revolution is known for its battles soooo…

In the end, there was peace. However, for the first half of the 19th Century, Europe would play with new ideas and ways of life. In the end however, high up forces would make the choices at the end of the day anyways.

Even after the revolution, France played with new ideas and eventually settled, but Im sure that with the debt and conflict across the earth that they ended up with after the wars, not everything was peaceful. However there had been treaty’s signed with places like Egypt meaning that there was at least a bit of peace.

The Easter Rising

The Easter Rising lasted 5 days. Thats a big difference from Frances 10 year, 6 month and 4 day long Revolution. No wars. Five days is a bit short for wars to start.

The Easter Rising was based in Dublin Ireland with small outbreaks in other parts of Ireland like; Meath, Galway, Louth, Wexford and Cork.

Easter Rising was caused by Ireland wanting to become independent from Britain.

“The Rising was launched by Irish republicans to end British rule in Ireland and establish an independent Irish Republic while the United Kingdom was heavily engaged in the First World War. It was the most significant uprising in Ireland since the rebellion of 1798, and the first armed action of the Irish revolutionary period.” -Wikipedia

With much greater numbers and heavier weapons, the British Army suppressed the Rising. One of the leaders named Pearse agreed to an unconditional surrender on Saturday 29 April, although spastic fighting continued until Sunday, when word reached the other rebel positions. After the surrender the country remained under martial law. About 3,500 people were taken prisoner by the British, many of whom had played no part in the Rising, and 1,800 of them were sent to internment camps or prisons in Britain. Most of the leaders of the Rising were executed following courts-martial. The Rising brought physical force republicanism back to the forefront of Irish politics, which for nearly 50 years had been dominated by constitutional nationalism. It, and the British reaction to it, led to increased popular support for Irish independence. In December 1918, republicans, represented by the reconstituted Sinn Féin party, won a landslide victory in the general election to the British Parliament. They did not take their seats, but instead convened the First Dáil and declared the independence of the Irish Republic.

That’s the story of the Easter Rising as taken partly from my over-viewly friend Wikipedia

But now to talk about the peace at the end.

I don’t really think that this revolution counts as a war. It only lasted five days and it ended in a political agreement and a surrender it just seems like a war would’ve had more fighting then five days and people don’t usually surrender that fast in a war.

The ending of this revolution definitely had a different ending to the French Rev. The Irish got their independence, and that was that. While with the 10 year revolution, multiple wars and such, Europe spent half of the 19th century trying new ideas and they didn’t decide on a permanent idea for years!

Is There a Difference In The Peace After A Revolution With War vs Without War?

I’d say so. If you look at how after the French Rev they had to keep testing ideas for government and control and things like that for an entire half a century while with the Easter Rising, the Irish got what they wanted and it was just that. The Irish didn’t have to play around with leadership stuff they just got what they wanted and went on with it, they’re their own thing, cool, now they’re done paying with politics. But the French are just like… Nah we’re gonna play with politics for a while and hope no more wars break out.

Gotta love the lil French Fries.

And that concludes this lil LPP! Thanks for reading and Im sure Ill be back soon!
