🌲 Hello and welcome back to the forest of learning! In PLP careers 9, we participated in “Take Our Kids To Work Day 2021” in which we accompanied a parent to their work. My mother works at an Emergency Care clinic as a social worker, and I was lucky enough to be able to come to the clinic and learn all about how they run the clinic! In this post, I will reflect on some highlights, as well as my overall experience at the clinic. 🌲

The goal of Take Our Kids To Work Day is to expose youth to the realities of having a job and career. It allows kids to understand what adults do in their everyday life, and how their parents make a wage to support themselves and their family. It is an extremely valuable experience for youth, as having a job is a necessity in this society, and it allows you to consider possible career options in the future!

In PLP careers 9, we were instructed to film a video on our experience at the workplace! Here is mine:

Due to confidentiality, filming the video was difficult. I tried my best to get as many shots as possible so that I could create an interesting video, and I hope it will suffice! 🙂

I was originally expecting to shadow patients interacting with the healthcare specialists and see how the clinic functioned. My experience at the clinic ended up being so lovely. The staff were so welcoming and kind. I was able to have the privilege to shadow doctors and nurses, learn about the clinic, and ask questions. Many staff members took the time to teach me so much, and I genuinely appreciate all that they did so that I would have a positive experience at the clinic. I was ‘working’ at the clinic from 9:30 AM – 5:30 PM. At the moment I am not considering a career in health care, however, I still learned so much. I had so much fun here, and I honestly think this experience was so valuable to me, and will help me when considering possible career options in the future.

as always, thank you for watching me grow in the forest of
