Hi people, for this blog post I’m going to be talking about my experience doing destination imagination.  DI is basically this tournament where you have to work with a team to complete a challenge.  You have to follow all the requirement to the challenge and work together as a team for instant challenges.  Instant challenges are basically mini challenges that you have to do with your group.  You have a few minuets to do a random challenge and then get rated based on how well you did and your teamwork.  Here is my DI experience.

For DI I was working with Kaden, Finn, Ciara, Kira, and Rhiann.  We all got into the scientific group so our challenge was medical mystery.  Our challenge requirement was to create a story that has to do with a medical disease.    We also had to make a symptomatic and create a double vision scene.  This means we had to show what two different characters were thinking.  Another thing we needed to make was two team choice elements that show off your teams skills/interests.

For our disease, we chose Witzelsuch.  Witzelsuch is a disease that makes you say inappropriate jokes at terrible times.  This is usually because of problems effecting the frontal lobe of the brain.  This disease although not known by many people made a very good disease for our story which ended up being a perfect balance between funny, and serious.

For our team choice element, I created a heart monitor by using code.  I spent a long time working on it but learned a lot about myself.  I learned that I am able to work for super long periods of time (5 hour) and if I focus on it I can complete it.  I used a website called scratch to code my heart monitor.  I made different little sprites (drawings) and made it so that they move.  In the end, I made it so the numbers for the heart rate, oxygen in the blood, and breaths per minute change.  While coding this I also learned a lot about heart monitors and how they work.

Like I explained, Instant challenges are basically little challenges that you and your group have to complete in a short amount of time.  This is really important for DI and you can get a lot of points from this.  I can’t talk a lot about what happened in the challenge (cause I signed something) but I can talk about what i’ve learned.  I’ve learned that teamwork really helps with completing things like this and anything in life really.  From working together on one of our challenges we were able too come in first out of our classes scores.  Even though our teamwork wasn’t as good as we wanted it to be, it resulted in us winning one of those challenges.

Finally after all our hard work we made it to the regionals.  We had all of our stuff ready in our waiting room and as the teams started moving past us we started to get a bit nervous.  When it was our turn, we got out there and presented our challenge that we had been working so hard to complete. In the end we did it and we actually did really well.  There were some things we needed to work on but we had a pretty good chance at making it to the podium.  When they released who won the science challenge we came second!  From this event I learned that you should never be nervous and always put it maximum effort.  It really does end up showing.

Reflection time.  I am really happy that I participated in DI because I learned so many lessons from it.  Some things I’ve already talked about like teamwork, trying 100%, and to always keep pushing yourself, there are many other things.  I remember that in one of our instant challenges, we had someone stepping up as a leader.  We ended up doing well in that challenge and I learned that you should always have a good leader.  This means not just doing the work and letting everyone have a chance do say/do something.  Another thing that I learned is to make sure you are away from as many distractions as possible.  There were some times where we got distracted while rehearsing and weren’t able to get on task again.  Anyways I hope you enjoyed reading my blog post. Bye 👋 👊
