For one of our most recent units in scimatics we got to use lasers. This was a really fun project where we got to create a structure from Star Wars and build a laser path around it. My group decided that we were going to create an AT-AT.

MindNode!

Before we started this project we created a MindNode with all of our questions on it. At the end of the project I could answer almost all my questions. There are still two questions that I don’t know the answer to but I’m excited to do research and answer them myself. One of the questions that I had was how many times can light be reflected and the answer is many times. I don’t know the exact number but I know that it can be reflected quite a few times.

Competencies!

Big idea!

For the big idea we got to show our knowledge with our laser paths. At the Exhibition we got to display our AT-AT so everyone could see it. The laser path was a right angle triangle and we created that using mirrors and a laser. I think my group and I did really well with this we may have failed a couple times but we got to learn from our failures.

Communicating and representing!

To make sure all the measurements were right we got to learn the Pythagorean theorem. Learning the Pythagorean theorem was really fun for me as I really enjoyed it.

Applying and innovating!

Setting up the laser display on exhibition day wasn’t too hard as we had figured out where everything went in class time. My group and I all helped each other and I think that we contributed equally.

Questioning and predicting!

I think that I definitely used my class time very well. I didn’t get distracted easily as there was a lot of things to do and I tried to really help my group.

Overall this project was really fun and I’m really excited for the next one!
