Struggling With Words

How might I construct text that shows who I am right now?

That was the driving question for this project, and one that I will hopefully answer right now in the form of my book of poems!

However let’s back up a bit, because how on earth do you write a poem?

That’s what I was struggling with at the start of this project, I’ve never written or even read that much poetry, so knowing where to start was a big challenge. I also really struggled with the other main part of this project, finding creativity and joy in poetry. Since I wasn’t very good at the start, it was really hard to enjoy just staring at a blank screen for two hours. However, eventually I wrote I few poems that I feel quite proud of and hope bring a little bit of joy to you too.

The other big challenges of this project were learning all the vocabulary, and injecting meaning into our poems. During the project, we learned 16 different poetry terms. We then used these to analyze other poems, but to also put them into our own writting. Using them to analyze wasn’t the hard part for me (We took a test and I did pretty well)

Analyzing A Poem

The hard part for me was using them in my own writting. Rhyming, alliteration, personification, I tried to incorporate them all into some of the poems, but I still think that I can improve a lot here.

We also made sure to have meaning for our poems, because a poem without meaning is a really weird poem. Anyways, I quite like my poems because they each mean, and talk about a little bit of who I am, which was the the driving question for this project.

So, that’s all for this short little blog post, but I hope you enjoyed reading my book of poetry. I put a lot of effort into it and am proud of how far I’ve come

See you next time,

Nolan
