🎙️ Peas in a Pod(cast)

Many people listen to podcasts. They are a way for creators to convey messages and share stories. The purpose of this project was exactly that. For us to use podcasts as a way to craft and convey stories to an audience. The driving question for this project was ‘How do I craft the story of my learning?’ To demonstrate our understanding of the answer, the final product of this project was, as you can guess, a podcast. The main focus of this project was storytelling, specifically crafting an interesting story with a conflict and resolution.

The first part of creating this podcast was obviously, writing the script. I decided to write 2 scripts for 2 separate podcasts. Each one was about a story from when I was young, doing something stupid which caused everything to go wrong. I think that writing the script was definitely the most challenging part, because I had to craft the story using interesting phrasing, and a well thought out structure to make sure it was as entertaining as possible. In videos, the script wouldn’t be as important because you had visual effects to make up for it. But in a podcast, words are all that you have so I had to make it count.

Once I had my script, everything else started to fall into place pretty quickly. All I had to do when recording was read out my script, and the editing was a breeze too. Editing my podcasts were much easier this time around, since I had plenty of practice from making my careers podcast. I am pretty proud of my final product, especially since I was able to put it together in a short amount of time (around 2 days). Uploading the podcasts to Spotify was a bit of a challenge for me, since I am a loyal Apple Music user. But I managed to figure it out with the help of my maker teachers, and I was finally able to create my podcast channel. Something that I would to differently next time is maybe add some background music during my dialogues. When I am listening back on my podcast, I feel like it would be more engaging if I had some background music to fill in those empty spaces.

Now that I have completed this project, I have enough information to answer the driving question. ‘How can I craft the story of my learning?’ In this project, I was able to craft the story of my learning through a podcast. In my podcast, I included stories from when I was young, things that could have differently, and the lessons that I learned from the experience. Overall, I think that I met the proficiency level of this project through well-thought out story telling, and an engaging script for my audience. I was able to engage my teachers (specifically Mr. Gibson) with my pitch, and was able to meet the criteria with my script. My audio quality was clear with no distracting backgrounds, and my musical transitions were intentional with natural fade ins and outs. Through this project, I was able to improve my storytelling skills, which will definitely assist me with school assignments in the future. Thank you for reading this blog post, and tune in for my next one!
