Thank you for coming to my presentation of learning. I am the expert on my own learning. I am also responsible and accountable for my own learning. You can expect me to give an honest evaluation of my progress. We will discuss my strengths and opportunities for growth. Thank you in advance for listening and for offering feedback that I can use to improve as a learner.

Ms Madsen these are my parents Rob and Jana, parents this is Ms Madsen.

So far this year has been a big one. I mean grade ten whew! I’ve had more PLP classes then I’ve ever had in a week. Grade ten seems to be a big step up from grade nine and I’ve felt the differences drastically. Before we launch into it I want to talk about my LV,M,V which is my learning mission values.

As you can see this is probably A bit diffrent then what you are used to. This year instead of a learning plan PLP decided to do this thing called a LV.M.V. Using this we were able to more clearly set out our goals and also in general what specific areas we wanted to work on in the coming school year. We were able to choose three success behaviours but the main one I wanted to focus on was agency. As all my teachers know Agency is one of the things I struggle with the most. So through out this mPOL I want to discuss on how I demonstrated (or didn’t demonstrate) Agency in each project.

This year I decided to just choose one project for each subject because I think that I have a lot to talk about.

Maker:

At this point in the year maker is the only class where our grade in PLP is all together. We’ve only really done one big project recently due to Maker being the class that we do DI in but I’ve chosen to not talk about DI for a reason so that wont be what we will be focusing on. The project that we just finished is called “peas in a podcast” and we had to make a podcast about a real life experience that we had. I just recently went to Indonesia so I decided to talk about that. I really wanted to share the magic of Indonesia so being able to add audio made is so much better. All the sound affects that I used in the podcast were taken from videos in Indonesia.

I think with this podcast I was able to communicate on how incredible the trip was but also talking about what I learned a long the way and how my worldview was changed. Unfortunately  this probably wasn’t the best demonstration of my agency but I did only hand it in a day late. Unfortunately my script was a little more then a couple days late but hey it was over 3000 words so that’s kinda a good thing. Unfortunately I had to cut down the script by around 700 words because it was way way too long. But I did take control of own work and cut down unnecessary parts of the script so at least there was a bit of agency.

PGP:

We have done a lot so far in PGP. We’ve learnt how to manage finances, buy a used car and also how to commit tax evasion…through a rap. But the project that had the most effect on me was called mentor for a day. Basically in this project we researched a career that we wanted to do in the future and the we reached out to someone who had that career and asked to do a shadow day. I’ve always been interested in marine sciences but recently I’ve also taken an interest in marine conservation law, so I thought that it would be a great opportunity to shadow someone who was in the field. So I sent out emails to the only Marine Conservation Lawyers in Vancouver and waited for a response. I got an email back pretty quickly from their admin saying that they thought this was a great opportunity and that they’d get back to me. Two weeks later nothing. After a bit they sent an email saying their Marine Conservation Lawyers were out of office at the moment and they would reach out soon. Unfortunately to this day I still haven’t gotten a response. By the time that they had told me that their Lawyers were out of office It was already too late for me to reach out to any other law firms.

So now I was in a conundrum, I had no one to shadow and the due date was rapidly approaching. I racked my mind trying to think of anyone I could shadow and then it came to me. We had a friend who ran an ocean conservation organization. So I immediately reached out to her. Luckily enough she reached out back pretty quickly and said that I could definitely come in.

Alison Wood is the leader of an organization called Ocean Ambassadors. They are a local organization that focuses on sustainability. You may have heard of their paddle boarding camps or even seen one of their stalls at a local market. But what you probably don’t know is that they help out with conservation all over Vancouver.

Environmental conservation is a huge thing for me so I was so excited that I got this opportunity to first hand see what was happening behind the scenes. I was able to Interview Alison and Ocean ambassadors program liaison Sari McCall. The interview went great and I learnt so much about starting a business and in general eco friendly practices. After getting all the clips from the interview together I began creating the podcast that we were assigned. The podcast ended up sounding good but it wasn’t my best work. In the matters of agency this also wasn’t the best example. I unfortunately handed it in quite late and wasn’t  the most on task.

Humanities:

We did a ton of projects so far in Humanities, but my all time favourite project was the Romeo and Juliet project. This class we were assigned with creating a modern version of Romeo and Juliet and then writing a script and then finally performing it. We started off just reading it and doing some reviews but then it came to the fun part, figuring out what we’re doing for it. After a lot of discussion we ended up on deciding that we would do it based off of our local rivalry with Windsor and using that as a representation of the rivalry in-between the Montagues and the Capulets. From there we pulled local figures to represent different characters and tried to figure out ways we can compare modern situations to this four and a half century old play.

We were split up into groups based on acts that we would perform, my group got the first act. I was really happy with my group and we all collaborated well. I was assigned as the D.R.I for my group which means I was the directly responsible individual. Me and another group mate Nikan got to writing the script whilst the rest of the group worked on the graphics and the organization. It took a lot of work but after awhile we finally were able to finish our script and get to rehearsing.

We were the first group to finish our script which was a good feeling because most of the time I do not finish first. My group put a lot of effort into our rehearsals and we even met up in tutorial a couple of times to work on our acting.

By the time the day of performing was around we had all luckily memorized our lines so we were prepped. The play didn’t end up going that great because we had to do so many costume  changes. With agency I worked really hard of a project and I was really proud of my group

Thank you for reading!
