Fear is one of the most overpowering emotions, it drives humankind to compleatly change itself and the world around it. It also impacted the world tremendously during the Cold War. In this next humanities project we will be discussing the Cold War and also the atomic fear that most of the world faced.

Our driving question for this project is “How did fear shape the politics, culture, and beliefs of the Cold War world — and how does its influence still shape us today?”.  Using this question and some reflection on our past project the manhattan project we will be creating a companion piece to our videos we just created on the atomic bombs.

My video was about the effect that Bushido (samurai code) had on the decision to drop the atomic bombs on Japan. Bushido ended up being a way too specific subject to do that project on, so I had a lot of trouble finding what I was going to relate from the Cold War to Japanese samurai code. After doing a bit of research I came to the conclusion that the Japanese government almost used Bushido as a form of manipulation of their civilians, I realized that I could tie that to the way that the Soviets and the Americans used fear as a way to control their civilians.

Now a nice thing for this project is we get to chose the format we want to present our ideas in. I decided that I thought that a comic could be a really interesting way to show my information as I really enjoyed the project that we created comics in. Here is a link to the post where I reflected about this project;

The final POL of grade 9

And here is the cover of the comic just to give you an idea;

I still have yet to decide how I want to build my comic but more will be coming soon!

For this project I would like to really focus on agency. Agency was one of the main things I reflected on in my VMV and I believe that it would help me succeed more in this project. In the Manhattan project that we did I felt that I wasn’t putting my all into meeting deadlines and properly conducting my homework time so I hope with this project I can meet all the deadlines with assignments that I believe I put my all in.

Thank you for reading and see you when I’m done!
