Oregon trip 2023

Oregon Reflection:

This trip has been rough as fun as it was there was many challenges but there was many things to learn there and that’s what I will be discussing on today

#1: Flexibility

A couple of hours into the trip the bus broke down which meant we had to modify a good portion of the trip. So this trip did not go according to planned and if you know me you know how much I hate to deviate from the schedule so this was not a good start for the trip for me and frankly I was not to thrilled about the rest of the trip. But I reflected and came to the conclusion that I had to be flexible or else I wasn’t going to enjoy the trip, so for the rest of the trip I tried to be as flexible as I could and it ended up working pretty well. We may have missed some activities but we got some better ones in return. For example the bus broke down so we weren’t able to go to the Thai restaurant but we were able to go to on a limo and we still got the food as it was delivered to us. Thanks to all of this I learnt how to be flexible which is something I struggle with pretty often.

#2: Team Work

PLP has been really good for me in many ways but the one thing about it which I was disappointed in were the group projects. We didn’t end up having as many as I liked and the only times were we had groups were either small projects or minor parts of large projects. To add to this my teamwork skills have never been to good as I either do all the work or someone else does it. So when I heard about the quests I was a little nervous. In our first quest my team worked really well but we could have been faster if we were faster. After this quest though we all assigned each others roles which really increased the productivity of my group and we were able to finish quicker than last time. For the next few quests it was all pretty easy as we switched up the roles and were as quick as ever. After the trip the few group projects I’ve had I’ve done pretty well in and didn’t have to do all the work in. Overall I learnt how to work in groups effectively

#3: Staying positive

As I mentioned previously this trip was rough, there was long moments of boredom, moments of stress (the bus breaking down) and more. But with time I learned that staying positive was the only way that I was going to enjoy the trip. Thanks to this I enjoyed long bus rides, when the bus broke down and more. I did this by thinking of what was to come and how much fun I would have. This made every activity feel even more entertaining because of all the excitement I built up for it. So overall staying positive helped me pass boredom and stress and it also helped me enjoy the activities even more.

Overall this trip was really fun and what’s even better is that I got learning experiences from it which is something I never could have ever dreamed of. All of this just because I kept an open mind.
