Reconciliation blog post

This year our class worked on a project called Reconciliation: BC First Peoples. As part of the project we went on a trip to Haida Gwaii. The goal of the project was to learn more about reconciliation and what it really means in real life. The trip helped us understand that a lot more clearly.

When we got to Haida Gwaii we were welcomed by people in the Haida Nation. They shared their culture, stories and knowledge with us. We learned that their connection to the land is really important. Everything is connected to them, like the land, the sea, and the people. They take care of it all because it’s part of who they are.

One place that really stood out to me was Gwaii Haanas. It’s a protected area that the Haida help take care of. It showed us what stewardship really looks like. They do not just protect nature, they protect their culture and history too.

After the trip we made projects to show what we learned. My project was about [insert your project if you want to]. I focused on how the Haida are still strong today and how they keep their traditions alive even after everything they have been through.

This project and trip helped me understand that reconciliation is not just saying sorry. It is about listening, learning, and showing respect. It is also about remembering the past and making better choices in the future. I’m glad we got to go and see it for ourselves. It made a big impact on me and I won’t forget it.
