💙All About Gender-Learning Intentions🩷

The Project

In this humanities project, we are looking at how gender expectations affect people and where those expectations come from. We are learning about stereotypes, social media influences, history, and how ideas about gender can impact mental health, belonging, and everyday life. The goal is to understand these ideas better and think about how communities can reduce harm and be more inclusive.

Why this project matters to me

To be honest, gender as a topic has never been something I’ve thought deeply about before. I have always believed that people should be treated with respect regardless of how they identify, even if it is not something I have spent a lot of time thinking about personally. At the same time, it is not something I have felt super connected to or interested in learning about in detail. What caught my attention in this project is the feminism side of it, especially the history behind gender roles, inequality, and how women have been treated over time. Learning about where these expectations started and how they still affect people today feels more real and relevant to me personally.

Social media also plays a big role in why this project matters. Stereotypes are everywhere online, and it is easy to scroll past them without thinking. Seeing real statistics and examples in the silent slideshow made me realize how normalized these ideas are and how much impact they can have on people. Notes from slide show below:

My learning intention

For this project, I want to focus on collaboration and being an open learner. Even if I do not personally connect to every part of the topic, I want to be respectful, curious, and open minded! To support this, I will focus on self regulation and community by keeping an open mind in discussions, not judging others perspectives, and contributing fairly in group work.

What I want to work on/my goals

I want to get better at questioning things instead of immediately forming opinions. By the end of this project, I hope to better understand how gender expectations affect different people and how learning about them can help create more respectful, safe and supportive communities.
