Wait We Have To Work

For all the grade nine’s, we went on a little field study, take your kid to work day. A day where us kids went to our parents work to learn about jobs and careers. I went with my dad, who is a engineer/businessman. He works up in lonsdale, and we did a lot of things together. He runs his business by himself, meaning I could only interview him, and not anyone else, because no one works with him! Here is what we did

We started the fixing some machines, parking machines to be exact. He owns a few of the parking lots in the lower mainland, and around North America. We fixed them by measuring the volts, which we are actually learning in science! We used volt and ammeters to measure the batteries of the machines. If they were dead or not enough volts, they went to the garbage. I saw a lot of batteries in his office, as they were a vital part of his machines.

I learned more about batteries and volts and then went to fix some machines in the lonsdale area. It was very interesting, seeing how the machines worked and how easy it was to access them. It was raining really hard that day, and I was surprised that the batteries worked well with the heavy rain that occurs here in the lower mainland. I was very intrigued with how efficient the machines were. His machine are so much more accessible than some of the other machines in different cities and communities. It was fun comparing the different machines that my dad and other business owners make.

Personally, I would not prefer going into a job like this. With his work, he has to answer a lot of questions and emails and is overall a stressful and work-heavy job for him. Being by himself, I imagine it could be hard sometimes during the days and weeks. Although some people enjoy being alone, I would rather be with other people and learn and work with them.

Overall, I enjoyed working with my dad, and it was interesting to learn about his work. Thank you for tuning in, bye!
