Burning Copper in Science

Science class involves a lot of labs, and that’s exactly what we did today. Our lab consisted of us students working on a lab that let copper metal burn up and use the paste to turn a blue flame green.

Our task was to turn a blue flame into a green flame using a substance that consisted of aluminum foil and copper chloride. Adding aluminum to a copper chloride solution causes the formerly blue-green solution to turn almost colorless, to warm and then to form a colored solid. Once you take out all fo the liquid, the solid can then be added to a flame and be turned green.

My group was Tyler and Ryan L and we all contributed evenly, at least me and Ryan did but i guess Tyler did work. We started off by putting aluminum foil into copper chloride, which let the aluminum foil turn brown. The brown substance had to be separated from the liquid copper, so we added water and poured it out until the substance was alone. We then started a flame, and put the substance on top, which turned the flame green.
