Loot Lake Learning Advance!

GUYS!

it finally happened

Recently we went on our first PLP “field trip” to Loon Lake in Maple Ridge BC. Its no Oregon, which we would’ve gone last year if it wasn’t for the cough crisis. Before I start I just want to clarify that this was not a vacation. Are teachers aren’t nice people so we remained at work throughout the trip

(jk I love my teachers)

The reflection on the experience part

It started on a early February morning, the 14th to be exact. Everyone was exited for finally extending the PLP learning experience to outside of the classroom. The room was filled with bags as we loaded them all ont the bus. At around lunch, everyone loaded up onto the two school busses that would after 40 minutes of not being able to sit still in my seat, we finally arrived. Now keep in mind that my expectations for camps have been low, since going to Keats camp and timberline, but this place was incredible. Massive cabin buildings, a gym, a super nice dining hall. This place was a RESORT.

Now even though we were on a overnight trip at this massive resort, didn’t mean the learning stopped. Everyday, we would go to the the “basement” of one of the cabins and work on maker as a class or work on Destination Imagination which in some ways was possibly worse than in school as we were sitting on the ground. But as much as a minor pain in the but this was sometimes (no pun intended), Everything else was a blast. We got to go on nature walks, and there was a LOT of nature to walk because of how isolated this place was. We learnt how to make shelter, took photos of our surroundings, Went on a scavenger hunt around the resort.

It was all sunshine and lollipops until the end of day 2. Unfortunately or cabin had an exposure to corona and after that night, for me at least, the trip started to decline. After the day 3 breakfast most of our cabin had gone home. Luckily, the rest of our cabin was completely fine, as most of us had already had it before. On day 3 we got to enjoy some great activity’s courtesy of Stellar Play. We played some heavy duty laser tag and batte archery which was a first for me.

The final day was a gloom one. We packed all of our stuff after what felt like only an afternoon at the lake. We ended with one last hurrah, playing capture the flag with the grade 8s. We ate our final meal, chicken burgers which were delicious. Every meal on this trip was amazing! Much thanks to the kitchen staff. If the teachers weren’t portion controlling me, you guys would’ve had a lot more work. After a final photo we were on our way back to boring old Seycove…

Reflection on the “Learning” part

As some guy that my teachers keep quoting said: “You dont learn anything through the experience. You learn through the reflection.”

I want to focus on the core competency’s and which ones were covered in this trip.

Well, all of them were! I would say there is not one sub competency that wouldn’t be showcased in this trip. They all were implemented no matter what we were doing. It would take ages to describe what sub competency was applied in each activity (and you guys probably dont wanna waste time reading that) but each one was supper important no matter what we were doing.

So to PLP and the teachers, thank you, for the amazing trip. I know you were pretty stressed about this and you needed to put a lot of effort into everything, to organizing rooms, activity’s, forms, and everything it means a lot to me

And to my fellow classmates, I hope you all enjoyed and thank you as well for making this trip so memorable.
