In class yesterday we had an assignment. It was a relatively small assignment but I found it extremely interesting and I decided to do my weekly blog post on it.

My task was to make a poster about how something (anything) has changed since WW2. It could be technology, immigration, anything really.

I decided to do mine on National Security, Before and After. The Specific term for this is Collective Security.

The cooperation of several countries in an alliance to strengthen the security of each

Is the definition given by google. The Treaty of Versailles which is arguably one of the reasons WW2 even started is a very primitive version of collective security. They tried, but it didn’t work. The Idea that the allies had in theory was correct but their execution was poor. In the Treaty, the allies “took away” Germany’s assets. They weakened Germany’s military strength but didn’t account for the growth they set up Germany for. Germany just kept on growing, and growing, and growing, and nothing in the Treaty of Versailles stopped it. Why? Well it seemed so innocent, they were just building their population. Which seemed normal. Wrong…

As the population grew so did the frustration with their countries’ limitation. All if would’ve taken was one instigator and all hell would break loose. We all know what follows then…

Since then, as a world, we have learned our lesson and have set up a more modern version of Collective Security.

The United Nations

The United Nations is the best version of Collective Security we have so far in my opinion. It works, because The United Nations has its OWN military that help fight in aid against “axis” countries. This works, because the UN’s military is comprised of a small portion of every country who is apart of the UN’s own military. For example, the UN’s military has troops from all over the world, such as USA, Canada, and many more countries. This Militant power is so huge that no country can really attack another country because then they would face the military might of almost (not quite) the entire rest of the world.

Not to mention, the law side of the UN. But I can get into that another time if you wish. Let me know in the comments if you would like to hear about that!
