My quilt square

In class we have been working towards creating a humongous awesome quilt which each person in the class took part of. We were split into groups then we each created a myth for our quilt. (But if you want to know more about that click here)

Each person in the group had to create a individual block to make the quilt, so each person needed an event to work off of, and here’s mine:

he grabbed as many people as he could and ran to the nearby forest they ran for miles until everybody was out of breath by now it was getting dark and everybody was getting very tired so they decided to go to sleep. The next day everybody decided that they would go around the coast instead of back through the village, everybody thought that was the safest way. They walked for days on end and many people were very wounded so they slowly died as they were walking. Finally they got to the village after surviving off of berries and water from the streams everybody was famished so they ran to the nearest shop but something was wrong, nobody was out on the streets.

here’s a bunch of links to the other people in my group if you want to read the whole story, also read them in order to make sure you read it right:

And this is my final quilt block which I designed on an app called Paper:

In class we learned how to quilt and make a simple stitch that we were going to use. The first part I started to quilt was the yellow bit which represents Juno the hero. I thought would just start off with outlining it with double threaded gold metallic thread. Here’s a a link to a quick time lapse:

Next I started with doing the same with the green bit using green metallic thread (which by the way represents the trees) After that was finished I started thinking of ways to represent stones or sand using thread so I decided just to make little x’s with brown double threaded needles. After that I started working on the blue which represents the sky so I added some stars the same way as the stones except with white thread. Then I added some little blue swirls to finish it off. Here’s a picture:

Last but not least I filled in the yellow triangles whith double threaded gold metallic thread which I basically carried from one end to the other until the whole space was filled. Here’s a final picture:

Our Group Quilt

For this past term we have been working on creating a story and then telling it in the form of the quilt. We were put into groups to first figure out what our civilization was going to be a about, like the law, culture and worldview. our group went through many drafts before coming to our final one. Our group created a civilization on a island! Once we had that figured out our civilizations we had to create the heros journey. Our civilization was basically about a person who saves some people from his village and boats off to an island but in the process he dies while trying so in the end they get to an island, create a civilization and name it in honour of him. While we were doing that we learned and watched video’s about how different authors create there own heros and all the steps leading towards them just like the Divergent or Harry Potter.  The final step was putting it all together, juring this process we received a chart were we basically had to fill in each main event then create a picture with each event that happened. Our group split all the events between everybody, everybody decided to do abstract pictures (we had a choice between abstract or realistic) And I thought they all came together nicely. Once we were done we were off to the printing stage were we printed each picture onto a type of cool fabric paper! The very last stage was sewing, and then we were done! Through the whole process I found the most challenging part actually creating the heroes myth and getting it to the point were we could print it off onto fabric, and the most fun part (notice how I didn’t say funnest) I thought was sewing it all together.

My advertising project!

So these are my ads (before and after) that we have been working on for the past 3 weeks. For this project I used three different apps, phoster , canva and comic life. My first one was the Hatfield Marine Science Centre in Oregon for that one I used Snapseed to edit my photo but then I used canva to put it all together. For the Hatfield ad I only altered the font for the final draft and I think it looks much better! My second ad is the tsunami debris watch ad, for this ad I was advertising about the things to watch out for on the beaches after a tsunami. I used Snapseed to slightly alter the picture then I went into phoster to finish off the ad. My final ad was Haystack rock,  Cannon Beach  I used phoster for the first draft but then on the second draft I used canva, as you can tell my first draft is very different from the second! For all of these ads we went through a critique stage were people would tell you helpful tips, and I think that it was a very good idea because it helped us with finding some of the flaws in our ads.

Darth Vader Quiz

In class today we did a Star Wars quiz I thought it was so fun, and I would definetly do it again! Throughout the quiz they asked what weapon we would choose and other personality type questions so obviously, I ended up having the closest personality to……           Darth Vader 🙂 after, I did some more research and found lots more fun quiz’s to do.
