What fraction of our time is screen time?

Introduction:

In this Project we had to track our screen time. This made me extremely nervous since I believed that I spent most of my time on screen time on apps like YouTube or Pinterest. However, I’m glad that we were able to do this project as our first sine the work wasn’t that challenging and it was fun to play around in Numbers. I am looking forward for the future projects.

What are fractions useful for describing data?

Milestone One:White Board Fractions

For this milestone we had to work in a group of four people and make different types of fractions. The group was determined by our desk partner and the desk parter behind and beside us. They gave a number of questions relating to groups and we had to make a fraction in order to answer these questions. The starting question we found extremely easy however, the later questions were a bit tougher. However, through teamwork we either tried to split groups of questions or tried to work together in order to solve the question. We answered with proper fractions and would sometimes create simplified fractions to make the work easier. Even though working in groups usually makes me nervous I extremely enjoyed the experience since it was a short process and we didn’t get too off topic. One thing I hope to improve on is discussing more with my group and adding more new ideas to the group discussion. I think we did amazing on getting all our work done quick and efficiently. In the end of this project I was able to a achieve a sun as by grade. I believe I only got a sun due to my messy handwriting in the worksheet and the lack of full sentence in the final worksheet. Overall, I’m glad we’re able to do this project because gave me impression of what would happen in the future of the project.

How can Fraction be combined?

Math Worksheets Practice

Math worksheet helped us better understand how fraction work on paper and in the real world. The first math sheet questions 100-102 only the odd questions. I was confident for when doing this math sheet since I practiced math through the summer and it looked fairly easy. However, one part of this worksheet I struggled with is ordering fractions correctly. I believe I improved this feature later on in the project by double checking my work and making sure I multiple to the lowest common denominator. I think I did amazing on adding and multiplying extremely precisely and correctly. This worksheet was a good introduction to the next more challenging worksheets we do in the future

The next worksheet we worked on was the Fraction Intro PhET Simulation, for this worksheet we used a website to better understand fraction in wholes and in different forms. In this worksheet we were given this website link to assistance us with our work. In this website we were able to make for fracture shaped changes into shaped like number line and rectangles. This helped me have better understanding of what fractions look like if you represent them picture form. I think I did an amazing job at representing the fractions in different way with the help of the website. One detail I still need to improve on is making my work look more appealing and neat. I can do this in the future by making my pen more think and writing more quickly. In general, this worksheet taught me to look at different pictorial forms of fractions and covert them to a different pictorial form.

Practice 104-107 taught me to better covert fraction thus their denominators equal and to compare fractions. This worksheet focused more on multiplying and comparing different fractions with each. Several of the questions had to do with ordering fraction to greater and to least. These questions helped me better understand multiplying denominator thus you can compare the numbers of each fraction. One feature of the worksheet I think I needed to improve on is adding is checking over my work thus I wont make any silly mistakes. However, I believe I did absolutely fantastic at multiplication and the clearly showing my evidence for a certain answer. This worksheet taught me to compare fractions and making them equivalent

Practice 4.2 page 108 taught me how to add and subtract more accurately. Most of the questions for this worksheet were concerning addition and subtraction. At the start of doing this sheet I was extremely confident. Due to the sheet honestly not being able to teach me much however, reformed what I already know and I would argue made me better for the fraction test in the future. Additionally, one detail I excelled at was making good estimation when the question called for estimating. I think as I have said before I need to improve on making my writing more eligible and organized. In general, this made my understanding more complete.

Milestone 2:

In Milestone two we had to complete an adding fraction test. This test was extremely simple and was meant to test our skills on how well we are at math. Before the test I was extremely confident due to the practice of fractions in the previous worksheet and my studying for the math test on the weekend. I was right to feel this way since I need up getting 10/10 in the final test. However, one thing I should improve on is getting a proper eraser. Due to me having a low-quality eraser, it made my work look messy since it would smudge the pencil marking rather then erasing the pencil markings. Additionally, I think I did amazing at being prepared and confident for the test. In general, this test taught that I have a full understanding in combining fractions.

Milestone 3:

In milestone three we again had to work on a math test. This math test I believe was extremely challenging compared to the last test. This test we were given more questions that were mixed questions and had higher numerators. At the start of the test I was very anxious since I didn’t feel like I studied enough for the test. However, after the project I think I did enough since I almost gotten every question correct. The one question I did get wrong was due to a sillily mistake of not dividing the denominator properly. One thing I hope to improve on in the future as I have said before on this reflection is working toward making my work meet and pleasing to look at. I think I wonderful at getting the correct answer and understanding what the question asked of me.

How can I record how I spend my time?

Milestone 5:

Milestone five showed me how I exactly I spend my time during the day. At the start of the project I was confident since it didn’t look like we had to do much for this project. However, I was nervous since we would in the future have to present and public speaking is one of my greatest fears. While working on this milestone I had issue with accurately depicting my time. This is due to me estimating how long I work for any of my non screen time activities due to me not settings a timer while participating in the activity. However, next time I hope to add more different sections to the next due for me only timing my time on art and not adding any of the other activities I could done such as guitar, sleep or reading. At the due date of the project I was ashamed on just how much of my day I spend on screens and entertainment. Right now, I feel like I could worked harder on this project our of school and the next project I should put more care into what I’m doing.

How can I communicate my conclusion about my screen time?

Milestone 6:

Milestone six was the project I found the most challenging out of any of the stepping stones. Before the presentation I was extremely nervous that my document wouldn’t look as good and wouldn’t be as detailed as everyone else. This caused me to add make somewhat red colour scheme to my graphs and chart. Moreover, it caused me to make all my graphs 3rd in order to make it look more pleasing to the eye and add an average to make the table look as if it had greater detail. This in my opinion improved and helped my better organize my document. Additionally, I was extremely restless and jittery for the final project and even made a note script for the presentation. However, I abandoned the script once I saw that everyone was using any sort of text. I am glad that I made this choice since I believe without the script my spoke more at ease and I still got to the point of the presentation. One aspect I wished I would become more enhanced at is speaking louder and more clearly. This presenting was terrifying nonetheless, I think it greater my skills in public speaking.

Curricular competences

Applying and Innovating: Contribute to care for self, others, community, and world through individual or collaborative approaches

I think I did both amazing and needing of improvement in Applying and Innovating. I used these skills in the very first milestone for contributing to community and care for my work in all my work for this project. When we were in group setting I think even though I’m quiet and shy I tried to add my ideas into the collaborative piece of work. I attempted to follow the leader of the group in our group projects and assistance other group members with their load of work. However, even though I applied my self in the group project I think I could of put higher effort in the individual work. I believe I did put care in the work however, only when the work was close to being due. I followed this rule for my Screen Time document by making the most notable changes a few days before we were meant to present. I hope to do better in this competence next project.

Understanding and solving: visualize to explore mathematical concepts

I think I fully understood and explore the mathematic concepts. I think I fully understood everything due to my results on milestone two and three. In both of these milestones we were asked to fill in the math questions on the sheet and were marked. The first one I achieve full marks and the second one I only had one question wrong due to miscalculation. Moreover, if you took a look at my practice worksheet you will see that most of the questions are correct and the questions I did get wrong were due to me not looking over my work. This why I believe I fully achieved understanding in understanding and solving.

Communicating and Representing: Represent mathematical ideas in concrete, pictorial, and symbolic form

I believe I have demonstrated a full understanding in Communication and Representing in my work. An example of this is in my number document. I showed this in my numbers document by representing many of my different sections with line, circle and bar graphs. Moreover, I showed this understanding even in my math worksheets with how I represented fraction with number lines, circles, squares, rectangles and table in my work with math. In general, I think I nailed these competences and easily show an amazing examples in most of my work.

Conclusion:

In conclusion this project taught that I should spend less time on my devices. That I should spend more time on activities that don’t relate to screen time such as going outside or baking. I don’t believe screen time is bad thing however, I also believe that I should not spend my whole day just on screens. Overall, I’m glad I had the chance to work on this project and I hope the next project is as entertaining as this project.
