Colonizing In A Tempest!

The year is quickly coming to an end and one of the last units we’ve done in humanities is called Colonizing In A Tempest. In the unit we learned about one of William Shakespeare’s famous plays, “The Tempest.” Once we learned about his play, and knew all five scenes, we reenacted it in a tableau. However the twist was, we had to set the play in New France!

Learning The Play

Before we stared creating our tableaus we had to learn about the Tempest play.

We used an app to help us learn all five acts of the play. Then we worked on only using the most important parts of the play in our tableaus so we took 2-3 of the most important scenes from each act and recorded them down. This is the app we used to learn about the play!

New France

While we were learning about the play we were also learning about New France and what went on during that time.

Each act was split up with people, four to a group. I was act two with Lucy, Fraser and Niklas. In our act we had to set it in the settlement and trade of Canada.

Our Tableaus

Once we were done learning about the play and New France, we got to start on our tableaus. Everyone created a moving image for the background of each scene in their act. Our act only had two important scenes. The first one was when Antonio and Sebastian were plotting to kill Alonso and Gonzalo. The second important scene in act two was when Prospero is upset because Caliban has broken out of his service and is plotting against him with Stephano and Trinculo. Act two is the rising action of our story so we wanted to make it dramatic. This is the backdrop for act 2 scene 1.

This is our backdrop for act 2 scene 2.

After we had done practicing and rehearsing in the theatre, we invited our family and friends to come one night to watch out preformence.

It was a bit stressful the night of but everyone had lots of fun and it all went fantastic!

It was a great way to end the year!
