Truth Before Reconciliation

In the first project of BCFP “Truth before Reconciliation” we learned about reconciliation and focused on why the BCFP 12 course exists. Reconciliation is not a concept that is new to me, it has something I have been taught throughout elementary school. The distinct learning so far in BCFP is that we are looking at and questioning the history of Indigenous peoples in Canada especially the mistreatment of them through colonial oppression. We learned about systemic governmental reconciliation through working towards accomplishing and upholding the 94 Calls to Action created by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada. We discussed the power of reconciliation in communities by wearing orange shirts during National Day of Truth and Reconciliation. We also looked into the concept of Two-Eyed Seeing which is the idea of viewing things from both a western and Indigenous perspective in order to have a more complete understanding. This project included a lot of writing, I think the best way to understand the project if you’re interested it is to read the writing I have done. Below are some examples of the work I completed for this project.
