What I Understand So Far
My knowledge of Anthropology is admittedly limited. What I do know is it involves exploring the history of humanity. I am more familiar with the closely related field of archeology. I know that the textbook definition for archaeology is the study of historical artifacts to better understand societies of the past. I also know the examination of historical societies is beneficial to the modern world because it can help to explain why certain practices are common in specific areas today.
What I Learned in the Launch
Unfortunately I was sick when this project launched, so I did not learn from the launch activity.
Driving question:
How can we, using techniques employed by anthropologists, assess unfamiliar societies using observation, analysis, and ethical frameworks, while considering how perspective influences interpretation?
Learning Intention For This Project
My goal as an anthropological thinker within BCFP is to understand specifics and shifts around Indigenous peoples’ cultures before and after contact with colonizers. Long term, my goals with an anthropological mindset is to have a stronger ability to study the world around me with pure curiosity.
