Thought 12: How It Started/ How Its Going
How can we learn from the past and why is it important today?

This project was our 1st of term 3. For this project, we had to create a meme in the format of “How it started/How its going.” After this, we created a digital museum and hosted a grand opening via Zoom. Our memes had to be a representation of a medieval or renaissance worldview and their relevance today. The aspect I was a assigned was economics. I was excited about this because I am very interested in learning about economics. Like all our other projects, we had to do 6 milestones. Some of the milestones for this project involved, memes about PLP, collages about our lives, history tests and museum layout plans. Eventually, it was time to begin our museums. We started by making groups for our presentations (I will link my groups blogs at the bottom of this post). Then, we chose pieces of art to modify for our memes. The painting I chose was the portrait of Count Phillip Palantine the Warlike. I chose it because Count Phillip was a very wealthy German duke. The next thing on our check list was to design the rooms of our museum. I was in charge of adding 3-D objects into our room. I added objects like gold walls and stacks of money. The last step was to present. At our Zoom meeting, groups of people with different roles gave explanations as to what they provided for the search of an answer to our driving question.

We used the 3 curricular competencies to help us answer the driving question:

Responding to text
This project involved lots of writing so we had to be able to accurately describe our thoughts on the subject. Some of the assignments involving mass typing included writing artist statements, an essay on historical significance and describing our opinions on several political concepts. This competency helped me understand the driving question by improving my ability to take examples of text from the past and understand their consequences today.

Empowered learner
A major part of our project was to develop our exhibits. During that process, we used an application called Artsteps to build the layouts for the museum. I showed my use of technology by effectively applying the room designers layout to the digital display. The technology aspect of this project allowed me to research important examples of historical significance and their relevance today.

Establishing Historical Significance
The final competency of this project was historical significance. Historical significance is being able to identify what events are important and being able to identify why. We used historical significance during our history test and meme production. The historical significance competency was the most important for solving the driving question because I used it to learn about what makes an event important to remember in the future.

In conclusion, I think that I am now able to answer the driving question. I think that it is important to learn from the past so we can understand world views of the past. It is important to value their significance so that we can learn from mistakes of the past and use them to advance our society
