An Unknown Foulness

Well hello my dear readers, it’s been a minute but I am back so without anymore hesitation lets get into this weeks blog post. So recently we’ve started a new project in Humanities called iHeart Verona and as you could maybe tell by the name it surrounds Romeo and Juliet. Now, I’m not going to get into the actual project today since we’ve only done about a week of class so far so there’s not too much to talk about and I’d rather talk about the actual play Romeo and Juliet since I happen to have some experience with it already.

The first thing you should know is there’s this thing near where I live called bard on the beach which is a company that sets up these huge tents every summer near the beach and puts on different Shakespeare plays professionally. The other thing you need to know is that they offer workshops for kids and teens to go and create their own versions of these Shakespeare plays, and I happened to do one of these workshops a few years ago for Romeo and Juliet. The thing is, when your trying to memorize your lines and get the blocking down for a play you don’t have too much time to read into wha the words actually mean past a very basic understanding. So this last week when we’ve been reading through the play and delving deep into what the words actually mean it’s a little bit of a reality check for what I actually said on stage. You see, I played lady Montague and the Nurse during the play and the nurse is known to have a bit of a dirty mind and mouth so I’ve realized that unbeknownst to both me and my family, I could have be saying the most vile things in the world on that stage when I was like 10.

Anyways, that’s all I have to say for now since I couldn’t get that thought out of my head so why not plague the rest of you with this knowledge as well?

That sounds like fun! I think it is hilarious you did not really know what the words meant at the time. It’s kind of sweet. Would you want to play those characters again today?

    1. Bard on the Beach really was a great experience for me! I think I may even still have the script they gave us somewhere in my basement if you can believe it. As for if I would like to play those characters again, I’m honestly happy playing anyone as long as I’m not taking away a character someone else really wanted to play.
