Today in class:

-we discussed new vocabulary words and choose three more for our wall

-we discussed the homework.  I collected it and will mark question #2.

-we started section 2.

Homework:

-choose one event or thing outlined in Beatty’s History.  Find out if it is happening in today’s world.

Tuesday, September 25

Today in class:

We discussed where we are in the novel and course.  In table groups students summarized the novel in 5 sentences or less.

We read our novel and finished the first section of the novel.

Students were then given time to find their vocabulary words and start sorting out Beatty’s explanation of world history.

Homework:

  1. Find 5 new words and their definition.
  2. Write Beatty’s explanation of world history in your own words.
  3. What is good about this world?  What is bad?
  4. What do you think the title of the second section means?

 

Friday, September 21

Today in class:

  • Students wrote a journal entry.  Optional topic: Describe a time when you felt discriminated against.  Students had a binder check done while writing.
  • we had a class discussion using the information the students researched and their  journal entries
  • we read a few pages of the book.

Homework:

Reread the 4 pages we read in class today.  What do we learn here about Montag and Mildred’s relationship?  Please write down what you learn.

Wednesday, September 19th

Today in class we:

-voted on another vocabulary word to add to our word wall.

-had a class discussion on “Why a person would get arrested fro being a pedestrian?”

-we divided into teams.  Kury Squad, 7 PAC, Team Kev, ADAEYAGA.

-we read another 10 pages or so.

Homework:

-Binder check Friday.

-Please research and prepare to share an event, time or instance where someone/ some people were arrested for being pedestrian.  Be prepared to share your information with the class.

Monday, September 17

Today in class:

-we discussed the weekend, weather and discussed some classroom expectations.  (For Example: Phones in bags at the start of class).

we discussed the homework, the novel so far, and as a class selected two vocab words for the Juicy Vocab word wall.

-we read.

Homework:

-fill in the sheet for Clarisse.

-find two interesting vocab words and their definitions for the vocab wall.

-answer the following question thoughtfully.  Why do you think Clarisse’s uncle was “arrested for being a pedestrian.”  Be prepared to discuss this next class.

Please remember we will be doing a binder check on Friday.

 

 

Thursday, September 13

Today in class

-we reviewed the questions that were homework -I collected them.

-we discussed the introduction to our novel Fahrenheit 451.

-we read to page 15.

We then spent the rest of class answering the following questions (due for next class)

Homework:

What has happened so far?  (answer in point form)

What kind of person is Montag?

Look up and define 5 words that you don’t know.

What is the connection between a Salamander and fire?  (Please look this up on the internet and figure out what a Salamander represents and why it is being used as a symbol in our novel.
