In class today:

We discussed the story the “Veldt” in our table groups and then as a large group

We started to work on our grammar.

Complete Grammar Lesson 33 (Not D)

Complete Lesson 34 All

Period 1

In class today:

-We peer marked “Sentry”.

-We started looking at theme in the story.

-we discussed how to write theme statements.

-students completed a theme statement for the story.

Homework:

  1. Complete Lesson 27.

Wednesday, September 27

Period 5&6

In class today:

-We peer marked the “Sentry” questions.

-We discussed the story.

-We worked on/reviewed theme in our table groups.

Homework:

  1. Create a theme statement for the story “Sentry.”  It should have your statement of theme and then specific support (a quote or example) from the story.
  2. Complete Lesson 27 (all) of the grammar.

Period 8

In class today:

-Students received their “Barney” questions back.

-Students worked on their assigned question from last class.  They shared answers and then wrote their responses on the board.

-We then discussed their answers.

Homework:

-Complete Lessons 33 (not D) and 34

 

Tuesday, September 26

Period 1

In class today we:

-marked Lesson 24.

-We read the Short Story the “Sentry”

-We answered question #2 from the reading sheet.

Homework:

  1. Finish plot sheet
  2. Finish Definitions
  3. Complete Lesson 26 ODD

Period 2 & 3

In class today we:

-marked the grammar homework.

-we read “The Veldt”

Homework:

-none.

Monday, September 25

Period 5 & 6

In class today we:

Marked Lesson 24

We looked over Parts of Speech

Students received Short Stories books.

We completed a Pre-Reading activity for our first Short Story

We read the story “Sentry” and completed a post-reading question.

Students then started working on their homework

Hwk:

  1. Finish the plot chart
  2. Finish looking up the definitions for your “Sentry”

Period 8

In class today we:

  1. Marked L29-32 ODD
  2. We read “The Veldt.”
  3. I had each table group work to answer a question.

Homework:

  1. Finish answering your assigned question and be ready to share your answer with your group members on Wednesday.

 

Friday, September 22

Period 1

  1. Journal
  2. We had a fire drill during class today.  This took the majority of the class.
  3. I handed out:
  • a reading vocab sheet
  • a grammar outline sheet
  • a short stories duotang.
  • a pre and post-reading sheet

  2. We did a “coffee talk” topic: Technology
