Luca’s Thoughts

Goals are the fuel in the furnace of achievement.

My TPOL Blog Post

From 2016 to 2017 I have improved a lot in many different ways. From events in side and outside my school I have made decisions learned from my mistakes but most importantly used growth mindset in hard situations. These are big decisions and some that will most likely guide me in years to come

.

Looking back at the year I have made many mistakes, slip ups, what ever you are going to call them but I have been taught learned them. I have corrected mistakes and made changes to the way I learn to make it easier and more helpful next year. I have also learned a extensive amount of life lessons that I am going to hold onto for the rest of my life. For example I think a teachers job is not only to instil knowledge in to the students but also to give them room to mess up and to learn from their mistakes.

I am ready for next year not only because I have prepared to go into grade nine, but also because I would like the challenge. I have what some might say an athletic mindset. Even though an athletic mindset and a growth mindset are almost one in the same there are a few differences.

First off there is a need to secede, a competitiveness that lacked in growth mindset. Its not that you want to learn to growth in wisdom, but to be a better person, and if you are going to go full “sport” mode than I guess you can say that you strive to be better than others. Another point that is different is the way you push yourself. In growth mindset it clearly states that it is ok to fail.

There is no failing in sports, no losing, and definitely no giving up ether. This doesn’t mean that you can’t restart or learn from your mistakes but it definitely means that you can’t restart every couple seconds if things aren’t going your way. To some this up I think I am ready for next year because I was able to tackle a hard subject like growth mindset but then be able to pick out its mistakes and revise the whole concept.

Another reason why I am ready for next year is because I have felt like I learned not only the required knowledge but also extra knowledge that I have come across myself. When ever I research a big topic I end up researching smaller important topics that were not included in the original learning. For example when I was learning the about my Blue Sky I focus on a subtopic Sarcopenia.

Sarcopenia is a disease associated with the ageing process. Loss of muscle mass and strength, which in turn affects balance, grit and overall ability to perform common tasks. I found the topic very interesting and in the end I eventually infused it into my presentation. I did not realize how much research I did on the topic on till I was pitching an eight minute project and getting comments like “wow is that really true.’’ Over all my Blue Sky project ended up being really interesting, and in like five years I think I’m going to pull out some weird fact like, by age seventy five you are most likely to lose fifty percent of your muscle mass.

Over all I think that I am ready for next year because my learning has matured. I am no longer focused on topics from the past, but ones yet to come. I think that like many of my classmates I am ready to be challenged, to become that ‘Miner Niner’. As a grade nine told me himself do you want to be able to go in to grade nine, I said with a confident nod yes, of course I am ready. Now even though he meant it as a threat, I took it as a beckoning away of saying  that I was ready for the challenges ahead.
