Hello, welcome to my tPOL!

Thank you for joining me today to talk about my experiences from my first year of PLP so far…

If you didn’t know, tPOL stands for Transitional Presentation Of Learning!

In this blog posts I will be talking mostly about my projects, experiences and most importantly, why I think that I am ready to head into grade nine!

Again, “Thank you for coming to my presentation of learning. I am the expert on my own learning. I am also responsible and accountable for my own learning. You can expect me to give an honest evaluation of my progress. We will discuss my strengths and opportunities for growth. Thank you in advance for listening and for offering feedback that I can use to improve as a learner.” So lets get right into this…

My learning plan:

In my  previous “mPOL” I talked about my learning plan. I said that I could set my goal higher in some of my classes. After I did my “mPOL”, I went back and revised my learning plan so that in humanities, I could reach to get an EXTENDING, instead of an ACCOMPLISHED. I am proud of the grades that I have gotten this year.

This is my revised learning plan:

Science:

In science this term, my teacher was Ms.Kadi. I learned a lot from her.

The first project we did was called “small but mighty”. This was about germs and the cells in our body. This was a fun one because my class and I got to participate in lots of experiments and we got to use lots of science tools like microscopes. Experiments are my favourite part of science.

This next project was fun too. It is called “Mind over Matter”. This was all about mass, volume, and density and also Matter (Solid, Liquid, and Gas).

My science video game!

Our most resent project that we looked at was called “Journey to the center of the earth” witch talked all about tectonic plates and how they move to create natural disasters.

Science is one of my favourite subjects in PLP and I really enjoyed learning about all of these things.

Humanity’s:

In humanity’s this term I have had two teachers. Ms. Willems, and Ms. Pitches. In this class we learned about consequences of colonization, the history of Canada, and advertising. The advertising project was particularly interesting because we got to go on our first ever field study! I really like doing things like this.

A project that I am proud of:

A project that I am most proud of this term is the one we worked on in Oregon. This was our advertisement about a certain company. I really enjoyed working on this project because we had so much freedom with the design. Even though we interviewed someone about the main ideas of the advertisement, we could be creative an take it from there.

Revisions and critique:

This term I have gotten many revisions to improve my work to get the grade I was hoping to get. The main revisions that I got this term where from the advertising project. I had to revise my advertisement four time to finally get the finished result that my teacher and I where happy about.

I have always been open to fix my mistakes and improve my projects. I am open to talking about what improvements are needed to get a better grade.

We have practiced peer critique all the way from the first week of school this year. I like getting peer critique from my class mates because I like hearing other peoples perspectives on my work.

How I could improve as a PLP learner:

To improve as a learner, I think that I could keep more organized. It’s important to set clear goals and to create a plan for achieving those goals. Some times when there is a project due at a specific time, I often forget to hand it in even if it has been done. It would help me if I used some sort of method that reminds me when something is due. An app that would help me with that is called “Things”. I should start to use this app more often.

My Highlight of the year (Oregon coast):

The first thing that comes to mind when I think about this past year is our trip to the Oregon coast. This was my first ever real field study. We went on a road trip out of the country for about a week. This trip was a great opportunity to branch out and meet new friends. There where some parts of the trip that didn’t particularly stand out to me but overall this was a great experience and one I will never forget.

What does my work reveal about me as a learner?:

I have developed many creative skills that I wouldn’t of even cane across if i hadn’t joined PLP. I enjoy using visuals to support my work. An app called “Keynote” helps me do this. My work reveals that I learn best from visuals and pictures.

How have I demonstrated growth as a learner so far this year and why do I feel ready to advance into grade nine?:

So far, I have learned so much from being in this program.

As I think back to the first day I started PLP, I was so nervous about my teachers, all of these new faces that I have never seen before, and this new program. As I got more comfortable with my peers, I began to learn more and more about my iPad and how this new system works. I also learned a lot about my self…

– I have learned how to work with a group and talk to others better, thanks to the seating plans that change every day.

– I also learned that sometimes I enjoy writing. I have noticed that my writing has improved a lot because of all the blog posts that I have done this year.

I will continue to develop these skills further and I go deeper into PLP. Thanks to all of this new knowledge and experiences that I have soaked up in the past year or so, I think that I am now ready for the next chapter of PLP.

In conclusion:

This year has been really memorable and one I will never forget. I saw some really incredible things that i will remember for ever.

Over all, this was a great first year of higschool and I am exited for the years to come and all the great memories we will make.
