Hey blog! Feels like it’s been forever!
DQ: How do I craft the story of my learning?
For this maker project, I got to create my own podcast! Pretty cool right? And it at first, sounded really easy… well for me it was a challenge.
This project was in place to strengthen my reflection skills, especially on my own learning. I was literally tasked to make a podcast, sharing a story. This story had to be meanful, a time where I overcame something.
I remember knowing what I was going to talk about right away. I actually tell this story a lot, a time when I went kayaking. At the start I was feeling super confident.
During this project, we also experienced DI, so we went from the intro to this project, right into head on focus! Anddddd I also happened to be out of school for around two weeks. Now, I take full responsibility for this, as I was very unorganized, but I actually ended up forgetting about this project. At the start, I was confident this would be easy, like telling a story I tell all the time? Piece of cake.
Well before I knew it, the deadline was closing in. I had nothing. Hadn’t even started a document yet. And yes, I have told this story a lot, but I now know, I can have a really hard time turning that into writing. So I tried, and handed in a late final script. I couldn’t receive feedback because of this.
Then, the recording and final product deadline started creeping up. I had a really hard time with this. Even with the given time, I ended up struggling to be able to use the technology I needed. Then once I finished that, spring break was a day away. So was the due date. I got an extension, and still I let that slip away.
Now I can finally say I have a completed podcast, but this is a project I am not at all happy with.
I feel like I didn’t properly take advantage of the real learning. The point of this project wasn’t just to tell a random story, it was to plan out, create, and edit an engaging podcast.
I definitely know what I would do differently, if given the opportunity to do it again. I would create my own deadline plan, with dates and places I know I personally need to be at to be successful in this project.
Now, I want to look at a positive. The one thing I am happy with about this project is the content. The story I picked met the criteria, as it was a time where I faced issue with the environment I was in, the poeple I was with, and against myself. I feel I share the struggles, the emotions, and real experience through my podcast. I use sound effects, and important pauses to highlight key details.
I know I can be successful in future projects like this, and am really happy I have learned from this, even if it wasn’t necessarily a win!
Please check out my podcast and tell me how you think I can improve!
