Reconciliaction

Reconciliaction. The finale of B.C. First peoples with PLP.

This project was about the journey of the Haida People in Reclaiming their land and ownership of their waters. We did a lot of reading for this project. Some of the reading included: The Golden spruce, Klee Wyck and Athlii Gwaii.

We also went to Haida Gwaii as a field study, but I chose not to go to that field study. You should go and check out one of my classmates blog’s as I’m sure they have some pretty pictures.

The at home learners (that includes me) read the book Klee Wyck by Emily Carr and made a “scrapbook” (essentially a prettier version of a book report). I have attached mine to this blog post. A quick summary of the topic of the book is, Emily Carr, a white “settler woman” goes around British Columbia and goes to indigenous communities and tries to be as unobtrusive as possible and observes the people. She makes notes about the culture and practices.

The final part of this project was the exhibition. I attached some photos to the bottom of the blog, but a summery of what I did was I make a connections game like the one on the New York Time about different laws that effected Indigenous peoples and the ways they could live their lives. The goal of my activity was to show how laws put in place by the Canadian government dehumanized them. I tried to decided i wanted to make mine a game because I was thinking about previous PLP exhibitions, the parts with food and games usually to the best and I didn’t feel like buying food for a bunch of strangers.

Tpol-the end of Callum and PLP

So Hi all, this is my last tpol, and the last blog of the school year (though some other blogs that are late will be coming out after this one). This blog is about how i think that i am ready to advance to the next year in school. Now normally in these we would talk about how we are ready to advance to the next year of plp, but i have opted not to continue in the program. There are a variety of reasons for this which i will delve into.

So the things that i think i have done well this year. For the first part of the year with mister Gibson, i think i did quite well. I really enjoyed his teaching and in his projects i think I succeeded.

After he left there was one project that I had that i think that I didn’t do well, and that is the big bother project/ or the Macbeth project. This project didn’t go well for a couple of reasons. The start of the project was reading the play Macbeth and watching a movie of the play. We then made a knowledge network on the play. After this we had to record 4 video confessionals about the play. This is where I failed. I couldn’t find a costume for the play and I couldn’t get enough people to play the 7 other characters in the scenes, in addition to the fact that my character, kind Duncan only has 2.5 scenes.

My take away form this project is the same as it is for all of the projects that I don’t do well in. I need to ask for help when I need it, or when I am falling behind. Usually this would be where I say that I am going to change and do better, I don’t think I will change as I have been like this the entire time I have been in school.

Something else I want to talk about is something that I think that I did a good job in and this was the most recent PLP project, reconcilication. I that i did a good job in this project because I think this is the best I have met the criteria to a project in a while and succeeded. For example the scrap-book, I think I answered every question that I was supposed to answer, and I made it look nice visually which is usually a challenge for me. 

Also for the exhibition I think this is the best PLP exhibition I have done so far. I got by far the most audience engagement in this exhibition, and I think that my idea to make it heavily reliant on being a game was what did it. Usually when I walk around the PLP exhibitions, the things that grab my eyes the most are food and games, and I think this applies to everyone. The takeaways from this that I want to put into my learning in the future are: try to think differently that I usually do to meet the criteria and to think outside the box when researching.

What I will attempt to integrate into my learning habits next year are: try and be more creative visually and with ideas with how I do things, try just a little bit to be more open minded, ask for help or figure out some way of making myself accountable in asking for help, and to do better when it comes to capitalizing my letter i.
