Kira’s blog

Hello!!!

MPOLS

Its the mid-year learning post and and already I’ve learnt so much! From advertising to religion to world view, there is A LOT I’ve learnt!

Advertising:

Starting of at the begining of the year we had my favourite project of all time, advertising! This project was creative by using all the skills we’d already learned (photography, layout), it was idea generating and made me get more creative ideas around layout and fonts it also made me want to do this as a job! This project was also cunning at the same time being able to have a look at what goes on begind the invisible curtain of buissness in advertising something not most people have the chance to experience and I’m glad I did! I really enjoyed learning about all the science behind advertising, now I know about how ceartain colours are for ceartain products, how there are many different types of ads all different for the type of demographic its targeting and about all the effort that goes into creating even what you might think “the simplest ad”. My favourite part of this project had to be the actually creating of the ad (link & link to blog post)! Never once had I or really anyone in my class had the opportunity to create an actually ad for an actually company! This was so exciting for me because kids aren’t usually trusted to do something as big as this! Our project was to create an ad for a Deep Cove business and an Oregon business, it might seem simple but it isn’t! Even after four drafts there is still tweaking to be done to an ad! It was very difficult finding a way to get our message across to people with just a simple piece of paper, but when I say difficult I mean something that is hard but you want to get finished because it is fun! Me and my group learnt so many things from this project but I think if I was to say the thing I took away from this project the most it would be how to create an advertisement, all the struggles and learning you get when create an something that can change peoples perspective of a product!

World view:

What is my world view and how does it effect my life? That was what we had to answer in this project, for me that felt a little daunting after all I was just about to define what I stand for! This project was interesting and I learnt a lot of new things, like what does world view mean and what is my world view? However, I felt this project wasn’t as  interesting to me as some of the others had been, to me it felt like it was really just something we needed to learn in order to move onto religious worldview. This is an example of when I could have stepped up to the plate a bit more and put more effort into what I was learning. Nonetheless I did still enjoy the project even with the struggles with some of the apps *cough cough (explain everything).

Religious worldview:

up until this point all I had know about religion was through a textbook, that taught me nothing… so when we started this project I was surprised and interested in what I was learning, I learnt all about how some religions follow certain diets, calendars, rules and celebrations! I learnt how each religion can be so different but in most cases can track down to the same roots. I gained a deeper understanding of each religion and more respect for each religions beliefs. Also like in the advertising project I liked learning about the actual religion with all of the videos and documentaries but my favourite part was getting to go visit all the religious sites and meet and talk to people who actually followed that religion I felt this helped me understand their religion better and I got to hear them talk about why they believed what they believed. All this studying learning and listening was leading up to one big project! We were separated into groups, choose a religion and we were tasked to create a poster showing the main factors that built up our religion and a slideshow of all the religious sites we saw. In a way this project was pretty similar the the advertising project we had to do which I mentioned previously, they both were trying to express something! Although the religion project wasn’t necessarily an advertisement it was a creative way to express the religion we were doing. For more info on this project click the link !herehere! I felt this project really taught me what these religions really believe in, since we got to met people who follow these religions I feel like I learnt so much more!

Blogging challenge:

This year I got to try something completely new to me this year, blogging! (Specifically the edu blogs blog challenge), and I learnt so much! The blogging challenge was ten weekly challenges we had to do, they varied in topics such as art, science and math. I personally wasn’t super pumped about the blogging challenge at the start because more homework but soon I started to actually enjoy writing these challenges because most of them were actually fun! You got to have your own little creative way of doing the challenge and you got to see what other people did! I think that this made me a better student because I learnt how to “write like a blogger” and learned new things like coding which made me more open to new things! Here is a link to a more in depth review of the blogging challenge!

Tectonics plate book:

For science we did a project on tectonic plates! I was really excited for this project because I like learning about earth! I learned a lot from this project, about the earth, about tectonic plates and natural disasters! I think that I did pretty well on this project, I could have done better but I did try my best.

Here is my story:

Goal setting:

Goal setting for me has always been a really sappy thing for me like “I’m going to travel to Paris” and I never really tried goal setting it just wasn’t something I used to need. Now as I’m transitioning into high school its more and more clear that I need to start goal planning. I’m not a perfectionist but a more go with the flow and put a lot of effort into something when I feel like it, the problem with this is that in the example of math sometimes I feel like it isn’t worth my effort to finish something so it takes a lot of effort to push myself in the right direction. As a learner I am going to try harder to set up time and space to work on homework so I will use that time to focus on whatever I’m doing.

How will I improve my learning habits:

As I said above I am going to try harder to set up time and space to work on homework so I will use that time to focus on whatever I’m doing. I will also time block my important dates so I will not forget to hand things in and put more effort into whatever I’m doing. Whenever something needs to be done I will put that first rather than procrastinating and getting stressed out.

Question:

Do you have some recommendations on how to get past a road block such as when you are stuck on ideas?
