Growth Mindset Challenge!

Hi everyone! As you may or may no know me and my peers have participated in the growth mindset learning challenge. In this challenge we developed so many new skills which has made a massive positive impact on our other work, and I’m about to explain why. First and foremost we had to learn what a growth mindset is, develop one and go from there. Here’s what we learned in the process to creating the challenge finale product, the growth mindset selfie.

First of all as I said we have to learn what a growth mindset is along as what a fixed mindset is. A fixed mindset is someone who is not open to new ideas and will just think that they can’t do whatever task they’re trying to do and will just give up. A growth mindset is the exact opposite than the fixed. It is being open to new ideas and when they are struggling they might think they can’t do it, YET. Those people lean from mistakes and come back stronger when they fail. Those people also find the positive in the negative like when Tennis player Vitas Gerulaitis lost to the same person 16 times in a row, and when he won he said nobody beats Vitas 17 times in a row. It is also linked with Grit which is another mindset term. That’s the definition of a growth mindset right there, and we had to fit that into school.

Another big part of this was learning how to deal with and learn about failure. Having a growth mindset will help you learn from your mistakes and make a better product or attempt the next time. Our class read a book on that and it told us to take the best part of all our failures to make one big and great thing that is what you were trying to make the first time. There are also certain things that cause failure that you have to learn from like distractions and mistakes. Personally spelling mistakes and distractions are the two big things I had to learn from to succeed. Things like those are great to put on the growth mindset selfie, as you can see I have.

We’ve done many reflections on this project that help our learning make sense and make sure that we Are learning in the first place. All four of them were sports related so that shows that playing sports is a great way to develop grit and have grit.

After learning and mastering all those skills we made the growth mindset as you can tell I’ve been talking about. I took a few skills I learned in maker and mastered them by having grit. I used them to trace a picture of my face and make a portrait out of that instead of using my face. In the top bit I put my growth mindset goal which I made from my failures. This has been a very fun and educational experience and will help me accomplish goals in the future by using the growth mindset I’ve developed, although I still have to work on those skills on my selfie.

How It Started/How It’s Going Project Reflection

Hey everyone! Happy to announce that me and my piers have finally finished the how it started/how it’s going project. Our task was to create a meme about worldview that relates to the Renaissance or medieval times. On the how it started side we had to pick a piece of art from one of those two times that represents one of the seven worldview aspects. Those aspects are society, economy, values, time, geography, knowledge, and beliefs. On the how it’s going side we had to recreate that photo by putting our face in the photo, and changing a few things in the photo to show how our worldview has changed over time. My specific aspect was geography, so I had to change geographic aspects in the photo. Talk more about that later in the proof of learning section. The biggest part of the project like always is the driving question that I had to answer. The question was what can we learn from the past, and why does it matter to us today. There are plenty answers to this question, and because of that everyones will be different. Here’s a bit more proof that I’ve learned about enough to answer the driving question and make the final product.

Evidence of my learning:

All of the learning that’s happened in this class was straight from Petra and Emily but I’ve taken the knowledge they’ve given me and put it into stepping and milestones. I’m not going to talk about every one which I have don’t int the past, but here’s a few key things from them. We had to make a collage for milestone 2 and that played a big role in the whole project. That’s when we first learned about worldview and attempted to share our personal worldview on different aspects using mostly pictures. That was good practice for the final meme we had to create. We also had a little test along the way which was a challenge. We had to use all the cornell notes we took which is just writing down stuff you learn in an organized way. It was sort of an open book test because we could have our notes open, but if we wrote out notes poorly it would be a bit harder. The notes were just all of my learning written down so I wouldn’t have to remember, I just had them. There were many other important things but they were all related to those one way or another.

Curricular Competencies:

Empowered Learner: How might I use technology to construct knowledge? PLP is very technology related but during this project we learned to use a few new apps and editing software. My favourite was SuperimposeX, it was a little like photoshop but a little different in many different ways, and I liked those ways. It made the final edits flawless and it was easy and fun to do in the process. I will definitely use this in the future.

Establish Historical Significance: How do we make choices about what is worth remembering?Normally when I read something I pay very close attention and think deeply about it. When researching about those people, places and events, and write down the significant info down in my cornell notes so I don’t forget.

Responding to Text: Have I constructed an original personal, critical, and creative connection between myself, the text, and the world with supportive credible evidence? This competency was definitely more on the challenging side of the three but the cornell notes saved me again. What I do is taken my knowledge and opinions from there and transform it into a text for whatever topic were on. I often write the source in my notes so I have credible evidence.

The final product:

The final product/goal for this whole project was to make a museum that showcases our art on the worldview aspects we were given of our worldview. As I mentioned at the start it was almost a before and after picture from the Renaissance times to now showing how my worldview on Geography is and how it’s evolved from then. I was a room designer so I got to design the geography rooms 3D objects, the floor, the wall colours, painting placements and much more. I gave them to the techy and they executed the blueprint. Every other aspect did the same thing and that’s how the museum was made. The museum also shows everyone’s art that’s in PLP 8 I’ll leave a link so you can go check it out. Also here a picture of my personal art that you can fin in the geography section. Hope you all enjoy the museum and have a great day.

Fun With Emojis!

This photo may look very simple and an amateur photoshop job but trust me it has a bit of backstory. The big part of the challenge today was picking randomly generated emojis and making a story or art piece out of it. I chose to make some art but to be honest the photos were very hard to make because of the emojis that were randomly chosen. I reset the generator hundreds of times but then I kind of gave up. I did one last time and dealt with it. I saw the devil and angel emojis and that gave me an idea. Bart to other people is a nice little kid but inside where nobody can see he is a little devil. Nobody can see the bottom of the skateboard so thats why I put the devils there. I put the angles on the end because you can see there. I also put the happy emoji on his head so you can tell he is having a good time riding his skateboard. I put his favourite desert ice-cream on his shoes, because he came straight from his house eating ice cream and stepped on it when he got told his skateboard was fixed, now its stuck on his shoes. This may be confusing and a bit silly but thats just how I am.

Fun With Photos!

Hi guys! Today I took a fun little photo that I thought would be cool sharing with you guys. In the photo, it is a picture of me pretending to swing a baseball bat. I did this because baseball is my favourite sport and I wanted to show my passion for the game here on my blog. I wouldn’t be as cool if I found a picture from the web, because I’d have to watch out for copyright, it wouldn’t tell the story as well, and it wouldn’t be FUN. I got to take advantage of the timer on the iPad camera which was fun to work with. I’ve loved baseball my whole life as you can see in my worldview collage but if you haven’t seen it here you go. My worldview shown in this picture is Values and knowledge. To value and love the sport you have to know quite a bit about it. The more you know about baseball the better it seems, and the more you will value it. I have played and watched it for 10 years and enjoyed it the whole time. Watching the sport I’ve gained so much knowledge about teams, rules, and so much more which has made playing the sport a lot more fun. Baseball has helped me stay fit, gave me a reason to go outside just to practice, and playing it has helped me make friends and get through hard times. Its amazing how much one photo can tell someones life story, you just don’t know that yet.

The Medium Is The Message Final Reflection

Hi everyone, I’m just going to write a little reflection on what we did in the Medium is the Message project. This project was really fun because we learned a lot about advertising, but lots of work comes with learning. This time it was good work and actually really informational about the topic. I actually learned a lot in the milestones that we did and now I’m kinda a advertising pro. Me and a couple others worked together in a group to create a advertisement for a candy store in deep cove, that was pretty fun. Getting to the serious stuff, there’s a simple answer to the main question how does what we hear, read and see influence us. A good example of it is just reading an interesting text that’s powerful and getting affected by it in a positive way. It stays on our mind and we change a bit from it like what happened in Larry. I talked a bit about this in my previous blog post but it’s basically about how The book The gospel according to Larry simply answers out driving question.

You can see that I learned to write texts a bit better in milestone 5. In that paragraph I went deep into why the medium is the message and you can see how I supported my thoughts on it with quotes from a different text. I learned a lot about advertising in some stepping stones and a couple of our guests. On my blog it shows how my ads got better because you can see my first ad drafts and how they progress from feedback and advice from pros and the business itself, and where it ended up in my last post. I’m happy and proud of it because I think it turned out well after I took the professional feedback and put it into the ad. Coming into this project my first couple assignments were the cloud or the cloud with the sun. I didn’t know what I was doing half the time and it showed. Its great that we get to revise and show that we actually understand what we are doing, and it gives us a better grade like the sun or the rainbow. When revising I learned to support ideas, focus on the message more, and really learn stuff. Overall I’m happy with this project and cant wait what Scimatics has in store for us, and I hope your exited too.

The Medium is The Message Project Path Reflection

Hi everyone I’m going to write a reflection on the project path. I’m going to spit this up into a couple sections for each part of the path like launch, building knowledge, develop and critique, and then present and reflect. I’m going to make this short and sweet so I don’t have to keep you here too long but I will make sure to get all the info needed. The project path is a great way to learn and I’ve been liking it so far, ill tell you why.

Launch is a very important part of the path because this is basically where you learn about the project, what you have to do, and how you do it. Its kinda like the rubric of the project. This is where you get all of the information you need to know. Its great because it introduces you to the big project your going to be working on for the next while, and its normally in a positive cool way so you get hooked. I missed the first three days of the medium is the message project and I didn’t know what I was doing for the next couple days so that just shows how important it is. I’m so grateful

Building Knowledge is definitely the most informational part of the project path in my opinion it literally says it in name. Its where you learn all about things that relate to the project and about what you have to do in general. You learn about the topic and slowly piece together your work. During this phase is where you have the most homework out of the four but doing that work will improve your grade and the quality of the final product. Its the most stressful part because we have a lot of work to do in so little time and its not much like PLP.

The Develop and Critique part is definitely my favourite part because you have your almost final draft and it just gets better during this phase. You get friendly feedback that is very helpful and you don’t feel like people are just saying its bad. You can edit little pieces of the ad like the font up top, different photo layout and stuff like that. This part of the process it not too hard because all it is is just making little edits to work that you have already finished and this part also feels the best because you know that you’ve created something great. It definitely makes you way more confident with your work once you’ve edited it with your critique. And the great thing is it usually ups your grade so I cant complain I’m pretty happy.

The Present and Reflect stage has me all over the place with thoughts. It’s definitely the most nerve racking part because you have to talk in front of lots of people that might not like your work. But the thing is you feel very good after you present, all the weight is off your shoulders and you just know your done. I took my ad, opened it, flipped my iPad around and told my group a little bit about it. Its a good thing that your only presenting in front of a couple people like we did for the user manual project it takes some pressure away. I will leave my advertisement drafts and final product and put it down below. Its also good to reflect on it to remember how fun the project actually was if you liked it. Its the review of what you did for the past couple weeks.

Right there I explained what you do in each stage of the project path and how I feel about each part. I’m going to review it and explain why I think this is the best way to learn. So I agree with the PLP teachers that this is a great way to learn because I get why every stage is how it is. I absolutely love the launch phase because without it you would not know anything about the thing your learning about. Its an introduction and thats why its first. Then you learn about that thing so your building knowledge. You take what you know and create a draft then you get some feedback on it during the develop and critique. Once you have your masterpiece made from everything leading up to this point and share it to a couple people at first then the world. You get to reflect on it which is always good. As a I said its a very good way to learn and I wouldn’t change a thing about it. I know why the teachers like it so much now. I was just okay with it before but now that i reflect on it its pretty amazing. I’m happy that in in PLP now that I look at how we learn its great. So as you can see I like it quite a bit and agree with the teachers. That’s my reflection on the project path. Ive put our groups final drafts after business critique just down below. My Individual drafts are on another post so you can check those out if you want. Our very final ad that is going to get published is still yet to come because we need some feedback from a pro advertiser. I will make sure to make a post about the final product and a reflection on it.
