Hi, I’m Sam. In this of post, I will be talking about explorers and exploring. First, we started with why people during the renaissance wanted to explore. So why did they? There are a lot of reasons. Maybe they wanted to control more land and gain more power? Maybe the want to find trade routes? Maybe they wanted to become more wealthy? Or even because they are curious about the outside world. 

After learning why they wanted to go, we got to chose our own explorer. First, we had to choose. For me, I chose Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo. We did some research on our explorer. In this document below, it includes all of my research.

That’s only a small part of our big project. When you think about it, it’s really easy to do research. Next, we had to learn about comics. Why? You should start to get some ideas why. Since at the beginning we were separated into groups, each group was assigned a different type of comic. There were Superhero, Anti-hero, Tintin, and New Age comics. Our group includes Jordyn, Ben, Fraser, Anika and Me. We read the comics and wrote down what differences they had to each other. We also learned new vocabulary to describe the comic. Some things are full bleed, which is when all sides of the character are cut off. We learned things such as long-shot, close-up and extreme close-up as well. Finally, onto the comic. Now, I’m gonna reveal the big secret. For our big project, we were supposed to create a comic. Our comic is about your own voyage with your explorer that you’ve researched. We were supposed to write about one of our explorer’s voyage and add ourselves into it. The comic had to tell the background of our explorer, why he wanted to explore, where he went, what were his accomplishments, and challenges faced. I’m pretty sure there are some more but those are the important ones. The other challenge is, the comic can only be 5 pages max. Here is my comic that I did.

Now, there’s one more thing left. We had to make a presentation. The presentation is about why the King and Queen should send you on another voyage. We had to make a presentation that tells what I did on my first voyage, what were my accomplishments, history of our explorer that we chose, and what I will do for my next voyage. Our goal for the presentation is to convince the King and Queen fund you on another voyage. We had to tell them what they will get out of it and why we wanted to go. Thankfully, my amazing classmates filmed me. Here’s my presentation.

Well, that’s another big project that we finished. It was quite interesting using the apps such as comic life, comic maker and some other apps like superimpose. Feel free to try out those apps and this is the end! It was a pretty fun unit.
