Humanities reflection

Hi welcome back to my blog. We have been making tableau’s about the outsiders. The outsiders is a book by S.E. Hinton. Our project has been based on our driving question, what can the outsiders teach us about world view. You will read what we where asked to create, understand and know

In this projected we where asked to create a tableau using the skills we learned and the book we read. In order to do that we had to understand worldview and the book the outsiders. We learned worldview by reading the outsiders a book that uses a lot about worldview as a way to continue the book and teach each characters story and view on life. To help show our understanding of worldview we made a document about one of the characters worldview and a document on our complete worldview. We also made documents on the plot and what was happening in the book to help prove our understanding of the outsiders. Once we did that we had to start our tableaus. We made a tableau based on one of the movies scenes and our take on the movies poster. But before we could even get started on our tableaus we also had to learn basic acting.  Then we designed and preformed our tableaus in our groups at a winter exhibition (more on that later).

Every class we did an acting activity and read a bit of the book. For homework we had to read a bit of the book and do stuff for the conversations. If we had to do other stuff related to the book and worldview it was normally done for a bit in class and finished at home.

After we read the book, and did acting practice for the tableaus we watched the movie and started actually practicing tableau scenes. Then after a while we found out our tableau groups. (Links to them later in post) Then began brainstorming and slowly coming up with a finished product while also making a poster ad for the movie to go with it. To make the movie poster we each made an individual on then voted on one to make into our final poster. Once that was finished we began working on our props. Our group made a doormat and a roof that we had to remodel into 2 things of wood duck taped together and was very effective prop.

Then on exhibition day we came in after lunch and began to set up our scenes.  At 2:00 we had finished props and backgrounds for the most part. Then we set up blockades so viewers would have to go into a certain direction. Once school was over we moved the ready to move furniture that we made possible to clear out at 1:00. Once that was done we finished up our scenes and made a hidden backstage lounge we did not use and began the finishing touches and the clearing of our bags and putting on costumes. Then we did a run of our performance, final run of it and then began touch ups. Once that was finished at 4:15 we went down to the cafeteria, ate pizza and drank soda. (I got 3 slices). Then we finished getting ready and then at 5:30 started the exhibition and performed until  around 7:00. Then we got to view the other classes stuff and a performance by the grade 9s in the vortex theatre.

Conclusion

The outsider shows us what happens when humans are cast aside because society does not want them. The death of Johnny shows that everything golden almost never stays. His last words “stay gold ponyboy stay gold” have a lot of meaning. It tells ponyboy that he should keep going without him. The note johnny left for him and dally while being read to late to save dally from committing suicide let pony know that he should move on.  The death of dally shows what police where and still are like. It shows us that life is still worth living even if your 2 best friends are gone or anything. The book teaches a lot about worldview and it is a wholesome book in general. I highly recommend it for anyone who wants a book that has a good story and lesson in it.
