JABC is pleased to invite you to participate in the online version of this popular in-person program. It’s free of charge for all B.C. high school students and aligns with B.C.’s new curriculum. The same live program event will be offered four times in March and May:

JABC TechWorks is an exciting multi-school program experience that introduces B.C. students to a variety of tech and tech-related careers. Because technology is a leading economic driver of growth, the demand for skilled employees is sky high.

In 2021, JABC is converting the traditional one-day JABC TechWorks program into an interactive online program that will reach approximately 2,000 students province-wide— more than ever before.

YMCA Free Employment Bootcamp

Information Session for the YMCA Youth Employment Bootcamp program – a free employment program to increase your skills and get you working!

About this Event

  • Are you unemployed and looking for full-time work?
  • Are you15-30 years old(inclusive)?
  • Are you legally entitled to work in BC?
  • Do you live in the Vancouver, the Lower Mainland or the Fraser Valley?

If you answered Yes to the above questions, register for an Information Session today!

Now offered online, the YMCA’s Youth Employment Bootcamp program will help you build skills, strengths and abilities to find and maintain a job.

Participants spend four weeks attending and participating in online workshops that focus on a variety of employability and life skills, followed by individualized support from an Employment Coach to enter employment or a work experience placement. Our goal is to get you working, and we’ll be with you every step of the way!

Participants benefit from online training and work experience with local businesses. Yes, training is paid! In addition to accessing a variety of employment readiness and job maintenance workshops, participants also benefit from access to vocational training courses and ongoing support during and after the program.

We are now recruiting participants for 2021!

To participate in this program, youth must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • 15 to 30 years old at the start of the program
  • Be a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or a person on whom Conventional Refugee status has been confirmed
  • Be living in Greater Vancouver or Fraser Valley region in BC, Canada
  • Have a Social Insurance Number and be legally eligible to work in Canada
  • Be unemployed and not in full-time schooling
  • Be experiencing one or more barrier to gaining or maintaining employment

BCIT Big Info Session – Home Edition

Big Info: At-home Edition

Big Info is the largest program expo and information session at BCIT. It’s your chance to find out about all our programs – from businesscomputing, and health to engineeringtrades, and applied sciences.

Join us online February 22-25 from 4-8pm.

This winter, we’re hosting Big Info on Zoom over four nights. Join us from the comfort of your home to explore multiple areas of study, learn more about what it’s like to study at BCIT, and find a program that’s right for you. Each night will cover specific industry sectors as well as key student services areas.

While the event may look a little different, you’ll still be able to hear from faculty and staff, and get all your questions answered without leaving your couch. Think of it as Big Info: At-home Edition.

UBC Engineers Without Borders Youth Venture – Contest

COVID-19 Mask Case Competition

Explore the challenges faced by individuals who are unable to wear traditional face masks at this unique event hosted by the UBC Engineers Without Borders Youth Venture.

 

Held over 2 days in January, participants will have the opportunity to do the following:

  • Uncover the effectiveness and challenges of face masks in the fight against COVID-19
  • Discover the engineering design process behind the development of face masks
  • Design a face mask that is personalized for those who cannot properly wear traditional face masks

 

Schedule

Day #1 – Panel Discussion | Saturday January 30 | 11:00 am – 4:15 pm

Engage with professionals from different backgrounds to learn more about the role of face masks.

 

Day #2 – Case Competition & Pitch | Sunday, January 31 | 11:00 am – 5:00 pm
Time to tackle the design process! Throughout the day, videos will be released describing the different stages of the engineering design cycle to help guide you through the design process. Working within a time limit, your team will be guided through a series of associated deliverables that will ultimately be compiled and used for a final design pitch. Your team pitch will then be evaluated by a panel of professional engineers as well as medical professionals. Prizes will be awarded to the winning teams!

Operation Med School Virtual Sessions

Operation Med School

Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, Operation Med School (OMS) Vancouver has planned a new and exciting webinar series (several weekends of 1-2 hour presentations on Zoom). This program is designed to maximize attendee engagement while providing a multitude of information to educate students about the route to medical school and beyond.

All of OMS Vancouver’s webinars will fall under the common theme of “Reimagining Medicine”, which consists of expanding attendees’ views on the various ways to join healthcare and educating them on how 2020 has changed the medical school admissions process in addition to showcasing a wider variety of health-care professionals (including leaders in public health).
